XP seems to have been going for a few years now, anyone know if it's due to be superceded?
Vista - Autumn I believe
Longhorn, sorry Windows Vista is due for launch. I'd reccommend sticking with good ol' Windows XP though until we are forced to buy it.
The question is when will intel drop 'Pentium 4' they milked that for as much as they could.
Why? Do you think Vista will be dodgy?
Vista is a pretty dull name, could they not think of something more interesting?
"Windows V" has a nice ring to it.
As far as I know there isn't anything to suggest that Vista will be dodgy, but going on past experiences with Windows releases it's possible that it'll have some teething trouble.
Then again, I was an early adopter of Windows XP and it didn't do me any harm. I'll be jumping on the Vista bandwagon as soon as I see it in stores. If it all goes pear-shaped you can always revert back to XP.
They could make it even more confusing by calling it WindowsXT
I've read that you can softmod Windows 98 to XT speeds. Makes your internet faster too.
omg! What kind of cooling do you need????!
An Artic silencer for when it makes that annoying beep when it goes into reverse.
XP home users might be 'forced' to make the change sooner than they want...
My laptop wont be going anywhere near Vista/Longhorn/V what ever they end up calling it until at least a years worth of bugs have been patched, fixed, over looked etc
only a years worth? blimey... I would want them to fix a fair bit more than that seeing as they have been working on it for a lot longer...
at least I get my copies for very little money... you have to love the ms partner program!
I get mine for free , you gotta love the academic program too
that was what was goign to ahppen with Win98, but they continued to support it for a lot longer.
with windows 2000 they went up to SP4 and it is still used a lot by pros. thats me buggered then i have 3 computers on XP home (family). Why can't i get the updates . I should be ok cos i just got SP2 and thats it.
Personally i will not be getting Longhorn (i will cool it that cos i think its better) until it is required by games i really want because it will give me less resorces for the games the use.
Hmmm...I will consider upgrading to it - Windows XP Home and Pro were only 1 year in the making, when they were reased MS were churning out patches almost every day to counter bugs and fixes. This has been 4 years so I would have hoped they would have learned there lesson.
Also, this version of the MS OS will have RAID support so say good bye to A:\'s once and for all. I think they will go the way of the tape and zip drives...
The screenshots for vista are interesting also:
Just looks like an alternate theme to XP. But its supposed to be authentic??
And something to make you laugh:
Good ol' microsoft.
Anywho, it should be interested to see when it is released, I think it is due for early 2007UK was the last I heard?!
I've never had a problem with XP. Has always ran fine for me.
I was a bit hasty with XP to start! Too different from 2000 but now I gota admit I do love it! Not had any serious problems with it. MS will support it for a good few years yet I should think.
Apperently there will be a different version of Vista for gamers, I cant remember what its called but I think its Vista Professional, instead of having to close all the programs on the taskbar you can shut them all down at the same time, so that the processor and memory is devoted to the game making it run better. Thats what I heard
