Really want to find a properly scary game, and as it is coming to Halloween there really isn't a better time to do so :)

I've just ordered FEAR 2 off Amazon for a fiver after playing the demo ages ago at a mates on his xbox (room full of roughly 6 teenage boys, well and truely spooked ha :D)

Is there anything else I should take a look at?

Some of the zombie maps in COD:World At War were awesome.

Some of the 3rd party bolt on ones were excellent, definately worth playing.

    :)

Had Fear 2 in my head when I saw the name of the thread, don't think you'll be dissapointed with it :p

I thought silent hill 2 was scary, albeit old and you may have to emulate it.

The one we really liked was "Fruchurch". You eventually get cornered down in a bunker underneath a church (oddly enough....) and it's just a matter of team work and seeing how long you can last before the zombies get you. The ray-gun makes a huge difference mind you!

    :p

Doom 3. Can't hold flash light at the same time as weapon, and the whole game mostly darkness ;)

Yea! Doom 3, ofcourse. And no the only silent hill I've played was the second one, which might leave me a bit biased :p

Doom 3 is exactly the game that got me into pc gaming properly. I remember watching my mate play it in his house when he got a new graphics card donkeys ago. With being used to xbox graphics it looked INSANE.

Yup. Doom 3 is an extreme, some people don't find demons jumping out at you scary, I do, but then, I don't really find FEAR scary.

Depends what floats your boat ;)

    Penumbra.

More a feeling of dread than fear.

I didn't find FEAR 2 very scary because it seems a bit forced and gimmicky. I found STALKER a bit scarier (eventually) because it's quite gritty and starts out a bit normal and then you get all sorts of weird things happening as you get into the game. I guess for me, I find games scarier when they are not designed to be purely scary, but have good atmosphere.

An oldie but a goodie....System Shock 2. Lights off and it still scares.

The others I feel that are scary are BioShock and BioShock 2.

Yes, Bioshock is quite scary and the graphics engine helps a lot (even the first one). Good shout.

Fallout 3 in the dark underground systems can make you poo your pants occasionally (or maybe I should stop eating figs).
