This is an announcement for the attention of those people slowly starting to use Trash Talk again.

The rest of you are excused.

Over the past few weeks I’ve noticed an increasing number of posts and users containing such terms as “u hav to”, “u no what”, “b4 u restart” and so on.

It’s a long running pet hate of mine and I belive many other members of this forum- if I wanted a 14 year old installed on my computer, I’d go and play Counter Strike.

I'm not bashing those who have minor spelling mistakes, or those who were in a hurry and typed “teh” instead of “the”. Acronyms such as IIRC and FTW are also okay in my book.

But outright Trash and Text talk is bone laziness on a web forum.

You all know who you are, please pack it in and educate yourselves in the subject of typing.

    Thank you for your time.

    ^^ Second!

Just because you use short/text speak on your phones... lets not make it a habit by doing it anywhere else especially on these forums.

Aaaaah. Someone else who understands my pain

I just ignore all posts made with too much u, b4, h8 etc, as 99% of the time, they are not worth spending the hour they take to decipher

Whilst I am 110% in favour, does anybody else think there is a certain amount of irony that this is coming from somebody whose name is written in "leet speak" ;) :D

    Cheers,
    Stephen

You can have my vote as well. (Ok, I do admit that one or two text words have slipped into my posts, but I do check my posts before I hit the submit button.)

It is mainly the younger members that seem to be doing this in my opinion (sorry for being sterotypical), but if you listen to them speak, some of them can't even speak properly without words such as in'it and f*** appearing - just sems to be common language to them. Another word is like. This is used way to much nad in the wrong place by some "" Its like I said like dont go n do that. That's like what i mean in'it""

    Not just here!

The spelling and grammar is shocking. But that is the way society seems to be drifting i'm afraid. That's why all those spelling shows sprouted out from nowhere all of a sudden.

P.S. Maybe the text posters can't spell the long versions lol...

Oh dear lord, please excuse me... I have something in my eye.

What a happy time to see a resurgence for literacy!

The start of something wonderful perhaps?

    ok suppose i'm kinda guilty
will quite often use "u" and "ure"
i tend to use ATM, IIRC and AFAIK a lot
o and FTW- which i now use in rl as well :| computers are bad mmmkay
    confuses a lot of people

I have to blame like 8 years of using instant messenger programs for that i think.
And 2 years of playing a mmorpg hasnt helped
now whenever i swear in messenger chat i type it in the way that bypasses the swear filter on the mmorpg :|

whats the point in typing leet speak or text speak on forums anyway... i mean... TBH i can type faster writing normal that writing text speak. Text speak takes me ages just to look for the right letter or number to make the word.

TBH/FTW/IIRC are fine because everyone (well most) know what it means though i still haven't grasped what AFAIK means :(

    TBH: To be honest
    FTW: For the win
    IIRC: If I remember/recall correctly?
AFAIK: As far as I know
    FWIW: For what it's worth

Those are a few of the more popular ones... but you'll find them all in the Internet Acronym Dictionary or on Net Lingo

However... if you come across one you don't recognize... type it into the Acronym Finder for a quick-fix :D

I knew someone will do a thread like this sooner or later.

    I fully support it.

Or the "What do you think of XYZ piece of kit" threads?

Oh the list could go on........
