This has probably already been asked, and I have searched, but my internets way to slow at the moment to keep searching. It's just a quick question - My friend wants to get the audio from a video file he's got, and I don't know what he should use to do it, even if there is anything free.

It's an Mpeg file, if it makes a difference, and he wants to be able to split the audio from the video,

    thanks for the time :)

    ...but VirtualDubMod is better :p

Open the file, streams, stream list, choose your stream, save WAV.

ok, i have downloaded virtualdub 1.5

and i have a .AVI file (PaTyoJoN - Play it Hard) (good CS 1.6 movie btw) :D

    well, when i open it into the program i get this message: : : : : : >>

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

**couldnt locate decompressor for format 'XVID' (unkown)

VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible coded to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player are not suitable**

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

And yes i have searched and have come close, but just cant quite find the thing i want... :(

    Please help me :)

if you do know how i can get round this problem, or if there is another way i can get audio from the file using a different program..

    cheers ;)

I've got it thanx haz, but I'm not sure how to use it AT ALL, and I can't find a proper readme.

I'll talk to you at the weekend, maybe you can help me with this crazy contraption :D
