This is still a work in progress.

The spec is 1Ghz VIA Luke CPU on a Nano-itx board, 512Mb Ram, 120Gb Sata, USB boot, Wireless N networking.

Mods: Green LED Strip and white 50mm Fans.

Just need to get the 12v transformer then i can turn it on and install the OS.

Gonna go with linux but not sure on the Distro.

    Well here we go:

hmm, In a gamecube case, thats different, Well done.

Ive seen a pc in an xbox 360 case,
with original dvd draw, eject button, power button and usb ports full functional.
    which is pretty amazing.

You could turn the controller ports into front USB / Audio output. :)

    Otherwise it's looking good.

Any reason you didn't keep the top disc drive as a disc drive? Wouldn't be too difficult to mod a 5.25" SATA drive.

You could leave the top plate off and just remove the rails on the drive slide. Then all you'd do is make sure the centre stabiliser on the lid lines up with the spindle on the drive. That said, it does look cool with a fan in there, would help keep your components cool :)

I have decided to try and add a laptop dvd-rom drive to the top.

I have dissmantled the drive and have the key components i need. i need to cut one.

    The key parts are below:

    the most important part tho:

I dont have a disk support thing in the top so i need a laptop one with the centre clicky thing.

It would make the machine larger but putting a DVD in the Gameboy player (fits underneath the console) would be an option - if you can source one that's cheap enough to justify taking apart just for the casing.

Yeah they're in that fairly expensive place of not being particularly common to begin with, and people who are buying them now are people who actually want them and are willing to pay for them.

I second Ubuntu. I'd go for 10.04 - it's 18 months old, but it's supported until April 2013 since it's a Long Term Support version. Ubuntu 10.10 is slightly newer (and prettier) but won't be supported as long.

From 11.04 onwards, they changed the default desktop environment to something newer, shinier and less fully featured. As a result, 11.04 has higher CPU/memory/graphics requirements.
