Ive had an idea regarding CPU cooling let me know what you think:

hows about mounting one of these underneath an air cooler?

My waterblock came with long screws long enough to mount an air cooler on top of this cpu waterblock

and i was planning on using this air cooler on top of the water block:

GELID Solutions Snow Storm, it seems to have a plate with all mounting options for different cpus making it easy to put the waterblock under the heatsink:

My theory is that the cpu gets hot the water carries it away and the air cooler mounted on top further helps to dissipate heat build up.

let me know if you think this would work, i cant see why not?

would work but keep in mind your never going to get below ambient temps within your case on air/water or a combination of both. people have done exactly what your looking at with a peltier on the block and cooler to dissipate the heat from the peltier. that does offer lower than ambient cooling but will bring condensation in to play!

it may be a pointless and an extra expense when you could simply buy a better radiator or use the money from the block/cooler towards a better watercooling set up completely

Nah below ambient is not my goal really, the biggest issue on amd fx 8 core cpus is the motherboards vrms, and with an air cooler attached any excess heat from inside the case should be extracted straight out the top as hot air rises.

the waterblock is £8.50 and cpu cooler is £15 so it may be worth a stab, i have 3 radiators allready in the case, 1x120 at the front, 1x120 at the bottom and an 80mm at the rear, all powered with the xspc v4 pump/bayres combo
