So after playing bass for a while, I've just recently somewhat acquired an electric guitar. I used to have a tuner for the thing, but now it's somewhat...missing. Does anyone know of an online tuner that would take the sound of the guitar via a mic and tell you to tighten/loosen it? I've searched for one and cannot find it

I know there's a couple of commercial apps that do it (iLife / Garage Band on the Mac has a tuner, as does Cakewalk Guitar Tracks Pro)

Only online things I can see play a note and rely on you then tuning by ear eg http://www.howtotuneaguitar.org/

If you have an iPhone or iPad, there are loads of tuners for guitars. Look on the app store to find them. There might be some free ones, but there should be some that are less than a pound. I'd imagine you can get one for Android as well, although I haven't looked.

I use one on my iPhone which was made by Planet Waves
