Bought myself an upgraded adsl wireless modem
I've today upgraded my adsl wireless router from an older 802.11g belkin to a netgear one which supports 802.11n. I do have 802.11n NICs so i thought may as well.
I ran speed test and got a 2.60Mb/ps download speed on the pc that is hard wired into the netgear. My wireless pc downstairs got 0.7mb ps On the belkin when i ran it yesterday i was getting about 3Mb/ps. everyone i've spoken to rubbishes belkin for networking products but the speeds contradict that any ideas what could be wrong here? |

The type of wireless radio (i.e. g vs n) will make no difference to the outside speed you are getting.
The 3mbs vs 2.6mbs isn't anything too much to worry about, that could just be the extra traffic on the line today. You may have some settings wrong (encryption?) or some interference on the wireless frequency you are using. Is the wireless PC using an "n" card of the same "n" spec (i.e. 270mbs or 300mbs) and also from netgear?

Hi,
the wireless pc is using an N spec usb dongle but a different brand. Not had issues with brands before. Encryption is the same as previously.i.e. wpa2-psk I will keep am eye on it. With the world cup cricket on i want to make sure i;m getting good quality streaming out of interest what isp are you with? and anyone else who'd like to chirp in with some recommendations? I'm paying for a 8Mb connection but getting ~2.5Mb Although i downloaded a 650MB file just now and it took 45minutes. Is that normal? |

Maybe it's just me being tired and grumpy after an early shift, but I really can't work out what you're asking.
Are you trying to assess the speed with which your device is wirelessly connecting to the router? Are you trying to assess if your broadband lined speed is up to scratch? Are you trying to assess if you have correctly configured your new router? Is there a combination of the above that you would like us to address? Why do round pizzas come in square boxes? Who you gonna call? |
