Exclamation Vista x64 With SP1

Well i'm not too much of a fan of vista after testing the beta version, but i had vista ultimate x64 bought for me so i installed it and gave it a proper inspection,

After installing service pack 1 on it and trying to use my 7950gx2 it's still a definate no,no ie: framerates are low etc... i can't see this sli thing ever being sorted out properly, some people say nvidia is to blame with poor drivers, but if thats the case how come they work perfect on XP32 & 64?

*** Merry Christmas ***

We have to face facts here it's not a very good os at all is it.

also its not just problems with series 7 & 8 nvidia cards either, but i have not got a whole 2 hours to post all the problems it has. the fact of the matter is nvidia are finding it hard to make drivers for an os that has so many problems.

well as I've just found out nvidia can be a pita. One of my 2 nvidia boards (the nvidia business platform) is not even supported in vista, now is this down to asus or nvidia - I'd say a bit of both.

As to the vista ultimate 64 os, on the machine its running on its fine, no major issues excluding some software that wont install but a virtual machine covers that. As to games - couldn't give a monkey's my machines are for work not games and 64 bit makes a huge difference in 3ds max

I can not speak for Vista 64, at least you should get more drivers and programs as opposed to XP 64.

agreed, vista hasn't had any issues with major driver availability (in my experience) except on one or 2 old products (peripherals not main hardware) which I intend/ed to upgrade anyway.

I'm running Vista x64 SP1 and with an 8800GTX and haven't had any problems with low frame rates. I would suggest you perform a clean uninstall of your drivers and reinstall them.

*edit* never mind, you're trying to run SLI, which nVidia still haven't managed to get working properly on Vista.

Cheers,
Stephen

I'm sure you were already aware of it Aztec, but just as a FYI for others:
Whilst the info on the page you've linked to might prove useful to those experiencing problems with SLI [under Vista]... you can't actually download the hot-fixes, unfortunately

You have to submit a request to Microsoft for the specific hot-fix... after which I assume they'll decide whether your problems are liable to be 'fixed' or not?

Or get them from here: http://thehotfixshare.net/board/index.php?act=home
Useful for when the hotfix you need is one you have to ring M$ about, and it's 'out of hours'. Thanks Microsoft - everyone only ever has problems between 9 and 5!

As part of the "better" build for Vista they reworked the way drivers work. Appears for some reason Nvidia are not sorting their drivers out like they should. Seems Vista does generally have slightly slower fps than XP as it stands now but the reduction between XP and Vista is nowhere near as apparent for ATI cards.

Strange this but Xpand Rally Xtreme on my Vista64 with the latest 650i Sli chipset drivers & latest 169.25 whql drivers for my 7950gx2, all is very well, the game runs perfectly! Also the SLi on the card can be enabled properly too.
