new telly 800 quid

Looking for a new tv , hd pref , for around 800 quid.

Seen the tosh at both 37 and 42 and it looks nice enough but i see some shops are offloading the earlier models which arent 1080p ready so not wanting to risk that.

Going to use it for hd dvd , games and possible pc hook up.Anyone reccomend anything their using.

I can't believe how fast 1080p sets are dropping in price. *shakes head*

The Panasonic one linked above looks nice, though.

I don't think you will get a true 1080p set for £800 for now, you will get ones that show 1080p however, such as the one Jesus linked to. Unless you are desperately needing a TV or simply don't want to spend anymore on a TV I'd wait a bit 'til true 1080p sets are cheaper. I know I wish mine was true, I mean I like my telly and the picture is good but it only does 1366x768 nativley which when hooked to a PC looks a little bit on the Windows desktop.

Note, I have a 32" Samsung pretty much this one > http://www.play.com/Electronics/Elec...V/Product.html

Take this 1080p Toshiba. It's £950 (all right, £150 shy of the £800 mark), but it has a 1920x1080 resolution, which, in my understanding, was "true" 1080p. If you shopped around you might even find it for less than £900.

And here's a 1080p Samsung for £979.

So, all right, you probably won't get a 1080p set for £800, but for £100-£180 more you can. And, yes, upon closer inspection I concur that you'll want to steer clear of that Panasonic model.

Looks like its gonna be the tosh , with a bit of financial trickery and a code or two should be able to get it for around 850 and true 1080p.My man says theres a top end replacement coming sept to kncok it down in price in december even further.

gotta watch though , theres a bit of confusion with veriosn numbers on the tosh , its the db affix rather than just the d model that does the real deal 1080p

Fireblade's site has this one at £744.99. Dunno if it's any good, but since it's a Tosh, it should be OK.

Or a Sharp at about the same price. Both 37"

I didn't look for any reviews though, so it could be complete bobbins.

Cheers,
Stephen

Well thats just made me a little sadder, I didn't realise they were so cheap already . I guess if I ever do get my own place my samsung will have to be demoted to my bedroom TV and I may just very well be buying a new TV!

Look at the model number Jez. It's the exact same telly as mine - just 37" vs my 42"

As you'll notice from my post - and the link in Jez's post after it as well... they're available well over £200 cheaper than that (42" Toshiba @ £860 / 37" Toshiba @ £745) - depending on the size you want obviously

I just wouldn't want ya paying more than necessary for one

hi,

i no its an old thread but im after a HD telly for xmas, well ill have money then put the rest and get

http://www.laskys.com/tv_and_dvd/lcd...37x3030db.html

its now gone down to 'just' ?678. is it true 1080p then ie the full HD?

dont really no alot about HD, but i cant see the point it paying ?500-600 for a 1080i, id rather pay few hundred more now if you no what i mean.
ill have the 360 connected to it, ive only got the core so ill need to by a component lead right? will also buy the HD-DVD drive at a later date.

its for my bedroom, do 1080p start at 37"? as i was going to get a 27" but then realised i might aswell get the 1080p. i hope this makes sense, just looking for some advise really. i would also like to plug the pc in aswell, will my 7900gt run 1080p?

thanks all,
sean

37" 1080p in a bedroom seems a bit of a waste. unless you have a huge bedroom it'll be a waste, considering the distance you would need to be away from it to get best viewing.
