Well, after I lost my 6800GT and gained *almost* as much money back from OcUK .. I sat on my hands and waited for a suitable replacement. All the 6800GTs/Ultras had just disappeared.. The 6800GS wasn't really a step forward (or the same performance), and I wasn't really sure what to do.
So anyway, this turned up today: Yup, that's right .. 7800 GS AGP, clocked at 440/1300 I've not installed it yet, but will run some synth benchies when I have. Should last me until I go to the new AMD socket nearer the end of this year! |

Set me back about £243 inc. postage. I already had money to spend on a card, so it wasn't much of an issue. I also had a big fat tax rebate this month too!
![]() Just on my Linux box at the minute.. Navigating and posting through this site is weird in Lynx, but suprisingly easy, heh. I've got a proper alcohol-induced headahce from last night's festivities so installing is going slow.. But I'm getting there :P |

So it's in! All is well. The card is physically MASSIVE. I mean, it's huge. With the system temp at 31c, the card is only at 51c..
I remember before I turned my heater on and warmed the room up -- it was ~46c ... A huge improvement on the 70+ of the 6800 GT! Had a run through 3DMark '05 just now: ![]() Compared to my old score: ![]() .. A big improvement.. Off to play Quake 4 now!

Nothing like a new card eh, exciting stuff
![]() i got my X850XT for 200 inc VAT and p&p, very good card, it come with software wich will auto matically overclock it to 591 Mhz from the stock 520Mhz, as well as the memory (cant remeber result). great card its made my whole system fatser and has taken away the start up lag on Bf2 AA at x6 and everything maxed out. Its idles at 41C and does bf2 at 55 ish max. Cooler is great nice and quiet, the fan has only been to 5% so far My old card was the X700pro 256mb version. Thanks to the guys on here for reccomending the card instead of oter parts ![]() enjoy your card ![]() (went into a fair bit of detail there oops )

Not as if they actually make those cards anymore though ![]() I'm happy with the 7800 though. It's the highest-clocked outta-the-box model that I could find, and the performance is brilliant. Much, better than my 6800GT. Whilst I'm earning money I might as well get some tasty gear

Hi Guys,
Thinking of upgrading to a 7800 GS .. just wondered how noisy\quiet they are compared to any previous AGP cards? Thanks, Danny. |

The fan on my XFX one is quite noticable at full pelt.
In fact, when it's slowed-down .. it's still pretty noisy. If you've got a quiet system, I wouldn't recommend it. For a normal system? Yeah, it's fine .. unless it speeds up. But at that point you should have headphones on with gun fire going so .. hehe ![]() Certainly runs cooler than my old 6800 did..
