SmartDrive 2002C (Copper version)

I know its a long shot and you're probably recommend the Nexus-drive-away instead, but is there any chance of KustomPC getting hold of the SmartDrive 2002C (copper version).

http://www.siliconacoustics.com/smar...enclosure.html

Its still rated as the best hard drive enclosure but its impossible to find within Europe, and I've only found it on a few US retail sites. Thought QuietPC.com might have it, but they also prefere the 'other' enclosures. I'd rather order it through a UK wholesaler than import it from the US.

Any possibility?
Thanks

Hiya

Will certainly keep it in mind, but we've got quite a few different HDD enclosure already so it can't really be a priority for us just now I'm afraid

I came here looking for the same thing, so that's two sales you'd get straight away..

Sorry I didn't post back in this thread, must have been one that slipped me. I'm not really sure if it's something we can justify, if quite a few folk were shouting for them it would be a different matter, but to organise a single shipment of one product from a new supplier would probably result in it being a bit expensive, and really the Nexus DiskTwin which we already stock appears to be capable of doing a similar job.

Hey,

I'd be interested in a couple of these enclosures. I think there's plenty of demand out there (in the UK and across Europe) for this product. I've posted a thread on a forum that I visit to see how many people would be interested. If you could keep an eye on it over the next couple of days to see how many people register an interest it might give you some indication of the potential market.

The website is Silent PC Review, and the thread is here.

Thanks for that ! Fair call, will keep an eye on the thread. 3 people posting here over 9 months might suggest there's not really a huge demand, but I expect on the spcr forum it's a more relevant topic, so we'll see what happens !

The fact there've been no replies doesn't look good, I agree... but the post/thread hasn't even been up 24hrs, so I wouldn't give up hope just yet

If nobody else shows interest, it obviously wouldn't be in Kustom's best interests to stock them
But you could always try emailing sales@kustompcs.co.uk to ask if they might be able to source one for you alone? If you don't ask, you'll never know, right!

Anyway... a rather belated "welcome" to the forums to ya
Assuming you intend sticking with us... why not open a new thread in the 'Introductions' section, and say hello to everybody

No, we can't source a one-off product from another country from a supplier we don't already deal with - it's just not feasible.... sorry !

It can only work on something like that if it's brought in a batch.

Cheers! I'll drop by!

Shame about the SmartDrive. I'll try and order one straight from their website (its doable apparently), problem is I can't read Japanese

Hmm, 'tis a shame. I'll keep an eye on that thread. I can see it's a good product, and I'm all for bringing in good products... as long as it looks like people are going to buy them !

Will give this some time yet. Just with it being a supplier we don't already deal with it just means there's a bit more involved. Say, when mCubed released the Vertical Silence unit that was easy enough for us to get a few of tagged along with our order since we already bought TBalancer kits from them. Nice easy stuff, low risk, we can just see how it goes from there.

Starting off with something new it's a bit tricky as the pricing only works out at a realistic level if we maybe buy at least 20 units to spread the shipping cost and for all we know they could just sit there on the shelf. It's happened with other products that have looked good in principle.

Do you have any idea how much you'd be able to sell them on for if you did get them in? In the States I've seen them go for around $70, which is quite a bit (~£50). If we had a rough idea about the price it might sell the idea to more people. If its reasonable (i.e. around the cost of other high end enclosures) I'd probably get 3. I'll see if I can peddle the rest to some other people I know..

I'd be up for getting one - I know the most of the US e-tailers have a hefty shipping/import, and I'm sure that a lot of the UK SPCR and related crowd would quite happily pick one up if they were stocked. Now we just need to get them to post....

Some past demand for the enclosures (I'm sure there's plenty more, but these were the most obvious). If they were readily available at a reasonable price they would almost definately be chosen over most current solutions because they offer both superior cooling and silencing to most other products on the market. Plus they're just cool.

I've asked to get a costing for the SmartDrive Copper.

It's difficult to set a price for anything like this at such an early stage, but at a guess by the time shipping and VAT are added it's going to be just over £60 per unit...

Ouch! Perhaps I'll just hang my HDD out the window... Whilst we're on the subject, any idea what the next best alternative is to the Smart Drive?
