SSD Setup

Just bought myself a 60g SSD and was wondering if there is anything i should do when setting it up for the first time? It is 2nd hand.

I will be using photoshop so should i use a different disc as the 'scratch disc'

Thanks

Make sure you run the BIOS in AHCI Mode before installing Windows. Turn off de-fragging and download software to complement it. Most manufacturers have programs that you run weekly to keep it at peak performance. Adobe always recommends a separate hard drive as a scratch disc. I've never noticed any difference myself when using Photoshop. It might save files slightly quicker?

My old Intel SSD died after 18 months so you're taking a risk using an old SSD as your OS. Make sure you have a backup if you're keeping important documents on it.

make sure TRIM is enabled... without this enabled, your ssd will deteriorate and can lead to premature failure..

Open up an Elevated Command prompt (right click, run as administrator)...
and type the command: fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify

if the result comes up as "0 TRIM", then its all enabled and your good to go..

important bit there, that noone has mentioned yet, so i thought id chuck it in
