Lexmark usb pen

Howdy folks

I store all my films on pc in avi format (to save space), and as my DVD player will take a usb device! I thought a usb pen would come in handy. One slight gripe though, is that it is slow to transfer films across onto it! it's quicker to burn it to dvd @ 4x speed. Is this normal for the slow transfer or is it something to do with Vista?
