Help!!!

Just put together my 1st PC shuttle SB83G5, after few fiddly bits i was done, pressed the power button and everything turns on, all fans, lights etc. However do i plug the monitor into the external graphics card or the mainboard monitor socket on initial boot because ive tried both and just get a blank screen. No BIOS etc have showed up. What do i do once ive put it all together? thanks in advance
