Yeah, a good summary of lots of different threads, however I disagree on two big points.
1) Replacing any of the shuttle ICE fans with a 12dba Papst is asking for trouble unless you use your box for web-browsing, office applications only.
2) His advice on PSUs is, at best, irresponsible. Okay, so Shuttle PSUs do NOT have the large capacitors of a 500W PSU but they are still to be handled with MUCH more respect than this guy indicates.
Otherwise, the article is a good pointer. Nice piccies too.

i had already ordered a noiseblocker s2 80mm and a adda 40mm and im happy with the choice i made but ive just ordered the Zalman Cooler for the northbridge i had forgot about that.
the one thing that was worrying me was doing some soldering when replacing the 40mm fan but as he says in the article you can just hook it up direct to your mb.

Yes. assuming the 40mm Adda has a standard 3 pin connection (I'm sure it has) then there is no need to resolder to the cut connections in the PSU. Just plug into a spare header on the mobo.
Remember to CAREFULLY isolate the cut wires in the PSU though. Power will still be fed to them by the PSU so you don't want them shorting together or against the casing!!!!

thanks for the tip, whats the best way to "isolate" them?

I have read the psu section and his assertions about handling an open psu are ok if you are skilled in the handling of electronics. If not you simply wait the 24 hours. He has covered his bases.
TO isolate, slip a short length of heat shrink over the bare ends and then use a hiar drier to apply heat to them. They will shrink round the wires and therefore won't be dislodged - viola - isolation.
where can i this heat shrink from?

Is the fan spinning?
If yes, forget about it.

i read somewhere that its cos it has 2 wires and thats why it doesnt show the rpm.
anyway this fan is pretty noisy compared to the ys-tech silent one i was using im gonna go back to that one.
Yeah, if you have a look at the three wires from a fan; nine times out of ten, the Red is 12v, Black is Ground, and the Yellow wire (which is what you will probably be missing) is used to monitor the fan RPM. Without it, you shalst obtain no reading...
