View Full Version : Who are the bikers here?

After posting in the Ducati racing thread I just wondered who the other bikers here are and what they ride.

My current weapon of choice is a 1993 Honda VFR400R NC30 though I'm slightly limited by insurance at my age.

... In training anyway.

I'm trying to find a CBT course in my town but it's a pain getting hold of the company that is in the Yellow Pages.

I'm also looking for a CG125 (my ideal learner bike) but if I had the choice of ANY bike then it would probably be a Honda 'Blade but with customised bodywork to make it look like a half-faired Hornet.

For some reason I don't like Racing bikes (especialy the 50cc/125CC Aprilia Race-Reps ridden by 17yr olds who think they are the next best thing).

No offence to those currently riding the mentioned bikes/mopeds.

I've owned two of those, the first a UK spec model and the second a grey import. I'd have rather owned the two RC30's Joe had though

Current bikes are Triumph Daytona 955i and a dead Kawasaki ZX7-R.

Previous bikes in reverse order Triumph Sprint ST, Honda CBR-600, VFR-400 x 2, NS125R x 2.

Looking to do my bike test next year...getting my missus up the duff at 18, a house and bills put paid to my plans last time. Got an old Honda MTX125 here fitted with a MTX200 engine, needs a rebuild and tidying but looking forward to it all ready...

I'm currently saddling up on a 1999 Fireblade, the last of the "true" blade shapes, before we got fuel injection, USD forks, and the 17" wheel.

I'm very happy with my 'blade, indeed I would perhaps only change it if I had to for a low mileage 2002 revised shape model, and even then if funds would allow, i'd prefer it alongside my current bike rather than replace it. I know i'd want another RRX if I sold it.

I too am a previous owner of an NC30! A 1991 import I had, and loved it, awesome handling. Had to let it go, mine had a few mechanical probs, and the V4 is an expensive beast to really dig deep into. Gear selector forks from previous owner's enthusiasm to lift the front end led to occasional worrying neutrals. Not nice when cranked over on a roundabout, giving it a handful.

Can't wait for 2004 Fireblade/CBR1000RR or whatever they decided to market it as. MCN site only has this dinky image at the moment as a tease:

If this thing looks like what we think it will, my Insurance company are gonna love me!

Ok, joe, slightly jealous of the 2 RC30's tho the rest of that list is equally impressive, NC30's probably the closest I'll ever get, they'r so rare these days. I'd luv to get my hands on one of the RC45's for the short stroke motor tho, but they'r even rarer despite being the l8r model. Years b4 I can afford either anyway!

Ok.......slightly more information.

RC number one I bought from a dealer in Reading ( now gone.....probably to prison!) the ad in MCN said " immaculate with Smockin Joe Budweiser paint job".........what it really was was an ex-race bike put back on the road.I restored it to original with the aid of a brand new tank ( from the same dealer) and a cost price respray from Dream Machine. It being an ex-race bike was no problem because the RC's are so strong it's had to break them, and this one had a lot of goodies on it including a Tony Scott breathed on motor and a Moriwaki stage two exhaust system.
It was a wonderful bike and a complete joy to thrash/ride.Loved it so much that I decided that I would like a original, unmolested example.....so started asking around those that knew RC's and found one that had been a show bike ( as in carted around the shows of Europe) for the Honda Corperation ...it had 700 miles on it.....and that was 6 years after they stopped making them.
So..........I had to have it.............got a bank loan because I had to move fast or miss out on it.......fully intending to sell the fist RC to pay off a fair bit of the bank loan.
Well........lets just say that I was having so much fun that it took quite a while to get around to selling the first one and so was the proud owner off 2 RC 30's and a crippling bank loan for over a year.

If I hadn't had a crash on another bike that nearly took my right leg off leaving me unable to bend that leg enough to fit onto a sports bike I would have the RC today.........what the hell....theres always modding!:)

I got MCN today. So, do we like the new 'blade............................................ ...........?

Oh yes we do!!! This is just one pic from what has been released today.

It's early days, and i'd like to see the US paint schemes, but it does look very nice indeed. For some strange reason I miss the large endcan down one side. it'll take time to get used to it. Some very nice, useful, features on it too obviously lifted straight from the design of the RCV.

A nice selection of pics, including the new R1, GSX-1000, and ZX10-R are shown here:

Style wise it looks like a cross between the new CBR-600 and ZX6-R's, which isn't a bad thing :D

I never thought I'd say it, but I'm not convinced. Tthe 600RR is a work of art, but this somehow looks wrong.

The bodywork seems dragged 2 far forward, the exhaust is one of the most hideous I'v ever seen, and it still has 3 spoke wheels!

I LOVE Hondas, I really do, but something about this puts me off, mayb I'll change my mind when I c it at the NEC or Ally Pally.

The R1 on the other hand looks bloody amazing for a Yamaha, which I never thought I'd say either, I'v never liked the looks of the R series.

When i grow up and pass like my old man, i would like a Virago. Dont have much choice of bikes to have cos of my lack of height. Plus i look pretty damn fine on a Virago, so i'm told!

CyberDrac wrote: "have my eye on a Bandit 1200 unfaired in Racing Green"

About 3 weeks ago me and a work mate swapped bikes, he took my Fireblade and I took his 1200 Bandit off for a spin (I know and trust him, and we were both covered for insurance, so I let him on the 'blade).

Anyway, first corner on the Bandit and I feel a vibration, and ignore it. Head out onto the by-pass and feel it again on the roundabout. My toe slider was grounding! I was so used to the clearance on the 'blade I couldn't believe how close I was to grinding the pegs on the Bandit at a fairly moderate angle of lean.

Other than that it was top fun. Nice and torquey, and the owner had it set up very well. I was pleasantly surprised by the ride.

My 'blade? What a thrashing it got. Never again

Little Gem: Virago? Sounds promising.

the cat is blueprinted, dynojet stage 3 kitted, with k&n filtered and a yoshimura 4-1 stainless competition exhaust...

the trike is 1800cc vw beetle based, with a bore and stroke kit fitted. it will be running a pair of webber carbs next year when i can be bothered to fit them....

well, my old gsxr 1100 was used for drag racing. I had time tickets from santa pod with 9s quarter miles... 136.5 mph terminal speed.

I never leave any of my bikes standard, cos I am an old git that can afford insurance on modded bikes..

the trike is a hardtail frame, with a 1303 beetle engine with a bore and stroke to 1800cc. the main problem i have with it is the 90 mile range, due to the tank only holding 3 gallons....

it wheelies well though, and that is why the rear engine frame is extended to act as wheelie bars... the tyres are set to 10psi on the rear to make it a touch comfortable for passengers, and to stop the rear end lifting off the ground over bumps.

People in cars dont watch out for bikers, i got knocked off my Runner 50 (brand new) 3 days after i got it, because some stupid woman in a snot coloured car decided she wanted to turn round, just as i was coming up the road, no indicating or anything. She paid though, £400 damage i got from her. Still dont forgive her tho!

Unfortunately I've had a few over the years. Some nasty, and none my fault :(

Must say, a while back, I remember my confidence took a fair knock after the front end folded from under me on ice one morning. Horrid feeling.

Also, there's the fact that I looked like Bambi trying to lift the bike.

I hate accidents, they hurt so damn much.

mikeisangry
13-11-2003, 20:05
When you get knocked off it helps if your ****ed off as you can lift the bike a lot easier. Otherwise you feel and look and like a high grade pillock.

Jeez thats horrible! Im not sure really what takes a worse battering, your body or your confidence. What I do know is it really ****es you off, whatever happens!

Had another little accident today. Lets just say some of the back of my bike managed to come into contact with the ground. Took the left indicator glass off, and scraped up the end of the exhaust a bit. Nothin major though, and i wasnt hurt, but as I said, my confidence dropped majorly!
