I know a few people here must have Sony Ericsson phones so this may interest them...

I just got a text from Orange about a recall on exploding chargers, so i checked the web site:

They are recalling all CST-13 chargers made by Delta. They ship with a load of phones including T68i's and T610's among others.
The full info is below. (phone number at end)

**not all T68i's or others are made by Delta, mine is made by ST, so its worth checking**

CST-13 Specifications
PRODUCT RECALL: CST-13 phone charger
Sony Ericsson has identified a fault in a small number of its UK 3-pin CST-13 phone chargers and, as a precautionary measure, has activated a process to have all potentially failing units returned.
The charger is manufactured in Thailand by Delta, an external supplier, and has the identification number BML162099/3R1A printed on the socket face, along with "made in Thailand by Delta". The charger has been included with the following Sony Ericsson Phone Models: T68i, T300, T310, T610 and the Bluetooth handsfree accessories HBH-30 and HBH-65. It has also been sold separately as an accessory. At this stage we believe that the problem is limited to chargers sold in the UK only.

There has been a limited number of incidents in the UK, where a pressure build-up in the charger has caused the top plastic part of the charger to brake off, with the danger of hitting someone. If the charger does break apart, the electronics of the charger may be exposed thereby creating a risk of giving a person touching these parts an electric shock. In such circumstance, there could also be a risk of fire, if the charger is in proximity of flammable material.

Consumers who possess this chargers should stop using it immediately, remove it from the socket and contact the Sony Ericsson Customer Care Centre. A free replacement charger will be dispatched, together with a pre-paid envelope for the user to return the charger to Sony Ericsson for inspection.

At Sony Ericsson, product quality and safety is of the highest priority and we would like to offer our sincere apologies to all customers for any inconvenience caused.

Thank you. I got a text message but was unsure if it was spam or not.

It was spooky because my charger has been failing to charge properly of late. I will take it back to Vodafone as soon as I can :D

Thanks again.

Still not sure how there is a pressure buildup, theres only a transformer in there id guess.

I did think it might have been heat related but ive looked at my new CST-13 (mines an ST and so doesnt need replacing) and cant see any vents on this one so that cant be the problem.

Your's truly was one of the people responsible for putting in the IVR to customer services for the faulty chargers. I won't post the number, since you will already have it in the text message you received.

Cheers,
Stephen

I believe you have to return it to Sony Ericsson, who will issue a replacement, but please contact Orange customer services on the freephone number for more information, as I am not authorised to provide that sort of info.

I'm only a techie, so I don't get involved with that side of things ( I look after various bits of the network, not customers).

Cheers,
Stephen

You can either phone Orange or Phone Sony Ericsson, eiother of them will take care of the problem for you.

Orange is a freephone number so for orange customers ring that, everyone else effected ring SE.

Shops may change the chargers but i doubt they have big stocks to swap so it will be hit and miss if they do, its better just to call up, its cheap and you get a new one sent straight out, along with a bag (prepaid) to send the old one back

Was round my sisters place yesterday and told her about it [she has a T68i, got a txt message but ignored it ] So i checked her charger for her, and lo and behold made in thailand by delta. Good thing there was an advert about it in the Guardian or I reckon she'd never off believed me!
