Why the hell can it take 2days plus (often 14!) to unsubscribe yourself from a mailing list? I thought computers where instant, and for these lists we are talking about deleting a name / email from a database, a simple 1 line SQL statement??!!! (This rant is due to a 3rd email about car insurance from a company I've never used!)

Why do banks take THREE DAMN DAYS to process checks?????

Its so they can make money off your money for three days while you twiddle your thumbs and don't go to the pub with you mates cos you have NO MONEY!!!!!

And the delay you are talking about is so they have time to send your email to all their partner firms, so they can spam you instead...

It wasn't junk mail as such as I had asked them for a quote (possibly last year) - So it wasn't unsolicited, the fact is they had my email address anyway and didn't buy it. I'm not stupid enough to unsubscribe from all the other *spam* (for which most of it is deleted via my servers spamassin filter anyway)

Anyne know how to track unsolicited mail back to the original IP address it was sent from?

There's one spammer who seems to have dedicated himself to overloading my inbox, even though I've deleted my old Hotmail account and moved to another one twice, he STILL managed to find out my e-mail address somehow (how the heck did he do that anyway?!)...
So I want to find out where this guy is and show him just who he's messing with!

pick up a copy of a prog called "Mailwasher" it'll pick up your e-mail and will automatically send DNR's back to any known smapmmer! Give it a week or so and all the spam engines will think your account is no longer valid and you'll get tonnes less spam 'n' junk! :)

i use a pretty long winded way of subscribing but it works well

i have my own domain (ciqaladotcom) and through that i have a catch all email address so any mail sent to my account e.g. <kustom>@mydomain.com gets picked up.

then all i do is when signing up i is use the sites name as the first part again e.g. kustom@mydomain.com then if the site ever sells my email address i will see instantly who sold it as the site name is there in the too address... :)

however a good way of doing it if you do not have your own domain is just to have a 'spam' account and anything you dont classify as top top top importance send to that. you still have to clean it out from time to time and check theres no important stuff in there but at least you dont pollute your main address.

oh and NEVER post your email address on a website for all to see, its just asking to be picked up. also <my-name>[at-symbol]<myemail>[dot-com] style addresses can still be harvested by a lot of the spam bots as well so if you wanna stay spam free its best to either put it in a graphic image (still doesnt eliminate people who manually grab emails on a forum but it helps) or to not use it at all. i own about 35 domains give or take and in total i get about 3 spam a day... all of which are put straight in the spam folder of my inbox for checking. if they keep coming i create a rule and block that incoming address (e.g. kustom@mydomain.com) and no more spam from them.
