In putting a 120 fan on an slk 800 ?

i have a 80 fan , 7 votl mod , so nice and quiet but airflow not too good .

Was wondering if 120 would work out , 100cfm for 42 dba before 7 volt !!

cheers

if you can fit it in, go for it.

It doesn't fit.

But.

You could dismantle an 80mm fan, eg. take out the fan, and just leave the outter piece.

Mount that, and then use some sort of 80 -> 120mm shroud to mount the 120mm fan.

Would work well -- Wouldn't have a dead spot either!

got an evercool 120 mm ( cheap and fairly quiet <28dba )
and got a 120mm to 80mm fan duct .

1st off it dont look too bad .

the wire clips used to fasten fans to this heatsink ( slk 800) make for a very secure grip as they are fairly stretched on a 120 mm fan .

Got amazing cpu temp results , air volume is 73 cfm for the fan = really low cpu temps at full load .

Only problem is that you need good airflow through case .

The fan sits on duct which sits on slk , this results in a gap of only about 3 to 5 cm between fan and side of case . so not good air flow into fan .

Result is that temps are really low , for a while , but then go up and up till comp shuts down .

When i take side panel of this does not happen . So its got to be air flow in case not circulating propelry due to position of fan on top of duct on top of heatsink !.

So in theory the 120 idea is good but it doesnt work too well in my case sadly .

ok, have you tried reversing the direction of airflow? ie, instead of blowing down on the hs, why not suck air away from the heatsink? I use the suck method on my alpha, and it works very very well.... makes about a 3c difference lower on temps too.

the other option you have is to put in a duct from the outside of the case ....

or just cut a duct hole in the side of your case
