Just a question I wanted to ask....
Theoretically even if you had the fastest PC going.. If you ran Unreal Tornament on a TFT screen, wont it be limited to the screen update speed of the monitor ???
Just Curious
Tim
Only if you have vertical sync enabled. But the same holds true for a CRT monitor with vertical sync enabled.

ok, and what benefit does vertical sync have, just curious

Tim
Vertical sync ensures that the graphics card does not update the display half-way through the monitor redrawing the screen. So if you have a 100Hz refresh rate on the monitor, the monitor will redraw the screen 100 times a second. By ensuring that you don't change the image half-way through this process, you avoid the "tearing" or juddering effect you sometimes see in fps type games.
In other words, the graphics card waits for the monitor to begin redrawing the screen before issuing an update to the display.

Stephen

Hi jez
Just joined forum and refer you to my thread re: small sim system on main page.
I seek advice on a good TFT screen with a reasonable price tag but which is stable and has a refresh rate that gives me a solid and non floating picture. Any suggestions welcome.
Say up to £400 17" non wide screen
Cheers
