I am specing up a silent (ish) computer.

The only 2 cards that Kustom seem to have that are fanless are

Radeon 9600 128mb
and
Gainward GeForce4 450TV 64mb PCI

neither of which seem to have digital output, which is bad, as flat monitors seem to work LOTS better with digi input.

also I shudder at putting a PCI card in a mobo with agp :)

I would be very happy if i could get hold of a Matrox Millennium P650 - AGP 8x - 64 MB

which has *2* digital outputs, and 8x agp.

any thoughts on the quality of these cards, and could a Kustom person advise me if they could source the matrox.

cheers

Hi Fraggle,

Welcome to the forums.

Both the cards you mention are quality bits of kit however, if dual DVI is the way you want to go, then as you point out the Matrox is the way to go.

You'll get a faster response from the boys at Kustom if you email them directly at

sales@kustompcs.co.uk

They only tend to trawl these forums in their spare time which is pretty rarely sometimes due to the shop being pretty busy!

The Radeon 9600 does have a DVI output on it. If you look at the pic on Kustom's website, it's the grey connector at the top of the pic. The blue one at the bottom is VGA, the one in the middle is S-Video.

is getting a good card and cooling it with a zalman heatpipe not an option?

Yeah it is. But it will get hot but if the heat does not bother you go for it.

Asus make a range of dual DVI cards based on the GF FX5x00 chipset. Maybe look into fitting a Zalman GPU cooler to one of these?

Asus V9520 GeForce FX 5200 VideoSuite (128MB) - Around £80

Asus V9560 GeForce FX 5600 (256MB) - Arround £175

Thanks for the replys.

If the 9600 has a digi out then that’s good enough for me.

Matrox is renown for good 2d image quality, but i get the impression its all fairly marginal nowadays. I don’t require fast 3d so a more expensive card with the heat pipe would be wasted.

I also don’t want too many fans to exhaust the heat, noisy you know.

cheers again
