View Full Version : Nick Inspiration
Basicly "Why did you choose your nick?" and the stories behind them..... (If your nick is your name maybe cut out the whole story bit ;))
'zander' is pretty boring...... Real name is Alexander and rather than use Alex online I use the other half.
But 'ander' is a bit odd and so the z is there. Old friend first used it and so it just kinda stuck.
It bears no relation to xander or the fish.

The story behind my nick....
simple! I played the card game on the Colleges PC's more than i lstened to the leassons! I've been shorting it to "Sol" recently! cause it sounds cooler :) lol!!
Quite a few years back I picked up on mixing music with all different kinds of programmes inc. Mixman Pro, Acid Pro and Virtual Turntables. This was during the time where most musician were calling them selves DJ's and MC's. I started to put EJ (Electronic Jokey) in front of my name and it just stuck, now ppl just call me EJ.
Big Adam
30-07-2003, 14:02
My name is Adam and I make women's eyes water............
Actually, at Uni I was (and still am) good mates with another bloke called Adam.
When other friends were talking about one of us, the other person in the conversation would invariably ask "Which one?"
"Devilishly-handsome-gift-to-the-laydees Adam" wasn't quite catchy enough for me, so I became "Big Adam" and my mate became "Little Adam".
9 years later, and our mutual friends still use these names.
Better than the one I had at school during the 1st Gulf War........Saddam. (S-Adam, geddit?)
Mant = Short for Mantis which has been my gaming handle since Doom played over a LAN :D
No inspiration... just thought it was 'cool' at the time
Deviant, well, I just liked the name, and its my DJ name... (no, not "DJ Deviant" as that sounds crap ;))
Often shortened to Dev, or on some forums its Dev-UK/Deviant-UK.
Before that it was Spaced. Don't use that anywhere but on my Telnet talker these days.
Err... I guess my birth certificate :)
Although "Phil" was taken! By some random (possibly called Phil) who has only posted twice and that was in 2001!
Basically mine started cos I had a friend at uni who gave everyone and everything a rhyming nickname. I used to eat curries nearly everyday and suffered ghandi's revenge. That somehow ended up with me being associated with a sore **** and Poogash rhymes with my surname Juhas.
from windows io 'subsys' tem sad innit :)
My official nick name is Smurf.
Got that back in Junior school when the Smurfs were in, and my nick name is Murphy, plus i am tall so people thought it would suit me as im nothing like one. :D
The handle Kynoch came from the old CS clan i was in, i had to come up with a Nick name as my mates wouldnt allow smurf as it would ruin the clans image lol.
I decided to use the name Kynoch as i am abit of a gun freak and the best known ammunition company in England is Kynoch, they have supplied ammunition for both world wars and still supply NATO and the British Army etc today.
Plus i aint seen anyone else with a similar nick yet, so it shows its unique. :)
hillhopper

In Kentucky, where I was born and still reside, people from the Apalachian mountains are often referred to as hillbillies, briar hoppers, ridge runners or my favborite, Hillhoppers :D
I put a 'y' on the end of my surname. w00t :D
PJ Matthews

My usual nick name is obvious so Ill use my usual walibe nick name. This comes from the Walibi theme park in Belgium which is of course Wallaby in English. Walibi didn't look right so for my own purposes it became Walibe which has now become www.walibe.com.
PJ was my nick name before I was born and was taken from a PJ Teddy bear. Phillip-John is what it is short for.

Plain and simple, it's the name I use when leading my clan. It just carried over.
Well, here goes..
Once upon a time, when I discovered CS (quite a while ago, one of the early betas) I decided I needed an Alias. Well, Sweep out of Sootie rocks, so I nicknamed myself 'Sweep'. Later, I added Clean (Cleansweep), then it turned to killer (Killersweep).
A while after all that, I changed it to Splat. Nice and unoriginal, although I had rarely seen anyone with that handle before. Again, that turned to 'Killersplat', and before long became 'Killersplaty'.
Then, as I matured, I got rid of the 'Killer' and settled down with 'Splaty', and I've never seen anyone with the same handle (but of course, splaty@insert_popular_email_brand.com would be taken, and stuff like that ;)).
James Alexander Douglas Stormont
became JStormont
and more recently JADS
I tried The Unforgiven for a while (named after a classic Metallica track), but no one recognised me.
so now I am JADS
Well, my nick also originates from CS. I wanted a name, and had a freind who played regularly with me. I wanted to be Sharky and wanted him to be George (Sharky and George, possibly the best cartoon EVER).
He never did use George and Sharky just stuck for me.
So I am Sharky
my original nick was ignorant_*******2000, becuase ignorant_******* was taken and so was ignorant******* and ignorant-*******.
and noone could ever be bothered typing that so it got shortened to iggy2k and then just to iggy

Well, my nick is based on my slightly old Uni user name. Seriously unique and it seemed pointless to confuse people so its now my E-Mail, login and IM nickname. So, you see siu99spj, you're seeing me.
Also, I have an avatar I frequently use (Not in Kustom, yet) which also stems from Uni, but thats another story entirely!
funny how ppl come up with nicks :p
Mines nothin special, i like my drum and bass, phat tune called Original Nuttah, played counterstike under this name for a long while now, instead of ppl typin/callin me by the whole thing, they calls me nuts! :)

LoneWolf

The name isn't exactly innovative, I just pulled it out of thin air when a webmaster who hired my young self asked for an alias
:)
Blue Raptor
25-08-2003, 01:56
Blue = if it is blue and glows it's good :)
Raptor = they are fantastically cool and I spent a lot of my childhood years with my mates down the fileds lurking about making bases and spying , roaming etc
Here is the original Fat Jez in a photo with me, taken one Xmas. His real name is Jerry, but due to his large size my Mum started calling him Fat Jez and the name stuck. I needed a name for Medal Of Honor, and I couldn't think of anything better.
BTW, he is more like a dog than a cat in the way he behaves around people.
Cheers,
Stephen

dont suppose you've got any more info on that? , like an article with pics?
i used to go by the name of clucky (on other forums i used to post on) when i was at senior school, i left last year , made new friends and only talk to two people i went to school with now , so i just use my normal name now.
Steven McL = Steven A. McLintock
Simple really.
My name is William so i generally get called Willy by mates and that nickname online is usually taken so i added my year "86" on the end of it and became Willy86:rolleyes:
danielctull
10-09-2003, 21:03
In 1984 my mummy and daddy had a baby boy, whom they named Daniel Clifford Tull. My daddy's name is Clifford by the way.
15 years later I signed up for yahoo and danieltull was taken so i put in the 'c' because I couldn't be bothered with danielcliffordtull. and danielctull has stuck and been avaliable nearly everywhere...:D
and then he met Charlie, and became one of charlies angels
RND: taken from ZX Spectrum basic. Its a random number generator so Im also known as Random or RaNDom.
