View Full Version : why is BT such A'holes when it comes to broadband ?
I recently ordered BT's extended reach program thru ZEN ...about 2 weeks later ( monday this week ) my application was refused as BT failed it as being unsuitable for BBand ...when i contacted bt to find out what exact reason was ...i was told that no1 with BT could tell me .only me zen could tell me as although BT failed my line it wasn't them that explained why it failed ...ZEN told me BT can tell me as it is illeagal for bt to tell n e 1 about faults on my line as it breaks the data protection act ....
SO why are BT just being awkward ???? does n e 1 know a BT engineer local as i would like my line tested again...please
Sounds like this should be in the RANT forum.

If you are within the distance range from the exchange and your local exchange is enabled, then BT should get your line sorted so you can get on Broadband.
But if you are even slightly out of their range, then not much chance.
/me gonna get 2 mbps adsl next month :D
next door neighbour got BBand before the extended reach trial ..then i was too far from exchange ...now that limit has been extended from 5.5km to 6km and from 55db to 60 db ..i recon i fall within limit if not ..then theres no way that my neighbours line is over 500m from mine even tho their thru the wall from me
the lines dont follow where the houses are though. you could be right next to your frineds house and not get it becuase the line loops right round your estate before it get to you

Can I suggest you lodge an appeal with your intended provider and get them to ask why the discrepancy between you and your neigbour. An alternative is to apply to BT for broadband, furnishing them with the info about your neigbour. They may then carry out the rectification work in anticipation of some revenue. You are free to cancel once they give the go-ahead. Naughty I know, but perhaps it is no more than they deserve...;)
IGGY ...the 4 houses are connected by same cable ..when i had connection trouble a few years ago an they sent an eng. out he said it was either weather damage to box end of our row ..or would have to rewire the 4 houses as they were connected by same cable
oops forgot latest update .......guy across the road had his extended reach denied on same grounds as me ..but after callin bt they have finally admitted ..that our neighbour gets bband from them even tho their number fails their online checker ....BUT might look into why this has happened

In general its NOT good to have people who have failed the checker on the line as it slows everything down. You should forget ADSL unless you move and look towards perhaps this new electrical mains DSL thats on the way.
the neigbour who has BBand is getting the same dlaod speed as every1 else that has bband ...but BT are still adamint that they dont have it ..even tho it shows up in their records that they have BT openworld broadband ...and their number fails the online checker
