Recently, i've had no end of problems with my PC. Have fitted the gubbins into a new case, had few problems there. stuck a new PSU in it and new HSF. no end of problems. that was a nice 15 quid spent to get it sorted, turns out the power LED had blown and was making the rest of the system look dead. When I finally get it up and running with the new processor, it works fine at 1400Mhz but not the true 1800mhz it should be. Re-install windows, me thinks, as i could do with a bit of a clear out. while i'm at it, I'll reset the bios as this might help sort a few problems. Put my screwdriver across the CLEAR RTC terminal. Smoke emits. This **** has forgotten to unplug the PSU. Try doing it properly this time. turn pc on. dead. i think I need a new mobo. I really dislike computers, they cost so much! no, they're costing ME so much! I could almost cry.

Just as a wild shot out in the dark, the processor you had wasn't a Anthlon 1800+ was it? If so, its not sposed to run at 1800mhz.

Model Speed Multi FSB
1700+ = 1470Mhz 11.0x 266Mhz
1800+ = 1533Mhz 11.5x 266Mhz
1900+ = 1600Mhz 12.0x 266Mhz
2000+ = 1670Mhz 12.5x 266Mhz
2100+ = 1730Mhz 13.0x 266Mhz
2200+ = 1800Mhz 13.5x 266Mhz
2400+ = 2000Mhz 15.0x 266Mhz
2600+ = 2130Mhz 16.0x 266Mhz

2500+ = 1831Mhz 11.0x 333Mhz
2600+ = 2080Mhz 12.5x 333Mhz
2700+ = 2170Mhz 13.0x 333Mhz
2800+ = 2250Mhz 13.5x 333Mhz

it should be running higher than 1800 then. It's an XP2500+. Does the FSB for them run at 333 or 266? What are the other details like multiplier etc. for an XP2500? Am I right in thinking the XP2500 was a Barton CPU so only came in 333 FSB? Not that it matters at the moment. It's all gone black.. BLACK! BLACK! Although a little ray of sunshine has surfaced in the shape of my old man's wallet. He's mentioned about stumping up the cash for it and I pay it back when I get paid. I'll stick my question regarding a new mobo up in the hardware forum. I'm still feeling mopy about this, but not as much now.
