Ok, so I didn't know where to put this in the forum! I have a Goldstar Hifi system but the CD player is knackered. When you put a CD in, all it does it make a clicky noise and rattles. No CD will play at all....
Anyone got any ideas at all?

Yes, it's broken.
Buy a new one.

Absolutely no way of fixing it at all to save a good bit of money?
Is it within warranty still?
Id take it back to where you bought it and see what they say.

No, it isn't, it's 7 years old! We've tried a hifi repair shop but they don't do Goldstar. Could it be the laser that is screwed or something else?
it will most probably be the laser assembly or the motor if its that old. doubt very much if you wil be able to get new replacement parts for the system.

On close inspection, it appears to be the cogs that make the laser move which are clicking and it's the CD spinning up and down that causes the vibrations. Now, the laser moves alright cos if I move the laser to the outer edge of the CD, when I put a disc in, the laser moves quite happily back to the centre of the CD, but gets stuck there... I can however turn the cogs myself to get the laser back to the edge of the CD... Can anyone help at all?

I can see a small part inside the laser compartment moving up towards the spinning CD, and it starts to make that squeaking noise that CD's make when the drive is beginning to read them. However, it does this for a split second and then drops down again... It just continues like this all the time... Would this indicate a broken laser that cannot read the CD so is starting up and stopping again straigh away?

WOW, I think I've fixed it!!!!!! Took a bit of kitchen roll to the laser and gave it a quite wipe! It's picking up and reading the CD now. YAYAYAYAY!!!!
UPDATE: The hifi works perfectly now! This is the first time I've fixed such a thing and I'm well impressed with myself! :D
OMG My CD Player on my Denon hasn't worked for 6 years!
/me goes in hunt of some kitchen roll!
