I received two wd 7200 rpm 10 gigers and a raid card last tuesday, but could not get the bios of the raid card up, so I called Graeme who said the card was probably DOA and sent me another for the next morning, put the card in and same problem. I tried EVERYTHING possible, with no result. Graeme said the cards came from a new batch made by power magic and maybe they were the problem so he OVERNIGHTED me an adaptec 1200A (3 times the price on his dime) and the same **** happens.
Well I removed all the cards and started again, this time trying three different mb bios revisions and every slot with all three cards. STILL no raid bios. Time for a call to adaptec, the help line ran through everything with me including some diagnostics that showed all three cards were good, both new drives were good, and my mb was listed as compatible, at this point the tech started to treat me like a four year old. ARE you sure your using the control key? and the h as well? he asked, its the bottom left key he explained, and "You must not be following my instuctions properly" was the magic phrase that made me snap!. Time for a call to Graeme. Help I wailed. Did you try the cards in a different comp he asked, well it just so happens that I did try them in my wifes celeron box but her vx chipset seems to reject everything so no luck there either. Once again, step by agonising step (while on long distance phone),and suddenly SOMETHING new happened during bootup, a bit of a flash, and is it? is it the raid bios? NO ITS NOT!. The bios started flashing like mad, my Matrox G400 Max bit the dust, ****! Put in my old G100 and no probs.
AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!
Call back Graeme who passed me to Thomas, What mb he asks. 440 Bx my reply, damn the only BX board here is in MY comp he says, it has raid built in and ITS working fine, so I'll pull it out and ship it down on tuesday when your new G450 comes in will that help? we'll sort it he reasures me.
Now I may have the worst luck ever, but I cannot believe the time and trouble Thomas and Graeme at Kustom have gone through to get me going, including selling me his personal mb!
You might save a few pounds by buying from the biggies but this kind of service is worth its wheight in Diamonds!!
