My car got scratched recently along the door.

It's gonna cost a bit to sort it out , the bodyshops all say the whole side of the car needs to be resprayed to keep it looking as new.

So my thought - while it's in the bodyshop, why not add a few little tweaks here and there?

I'm not a huge bodykit fan, but saw this -

Just lower front / rear spoilers and a debadged front grill - I think they look quite fetching without being overly tacky.

Anyone added a kit like this before? It's kind of add-ons rather than full replacement bumpers , which means the kit costs less, but I really don't want it to look carp...

Heh, my car is going in on Tuesday to get the backend fixed (the lorry accident). Shame the insurance aren't fixing the other side (two doors and front wing bashed in from the 306 joyrider incident). The side is an expensive fix (new drivers door, the side impact bar is bent and the skin and frame are creased), and the wing is a total loss.

Bodykits are relatively cheap - it's getting the buggers painted and the paint matched that costs. I guess as you have it in getting resprayed already, you should save some there.

Well , I just ordered up the front / rear spoiler things and a new mesh grill - this coupled with the black plastic bits getting sprayed should make it look fairly nice without going OTT and without spending a fortune. Should get it into the bodyshop next week, will post piccies when it's all done !!

Glad to report I got my motor back on Thursday.

Replaced the back quarter panel - on the Astra that means from the middle of the sill at the back door right up over the doors as far as the front wing. All one bit. One heck of a job, but they did a good job of welding it back together, and the paint matches well.

Shame they quoted my £1190 to fix the other side (not insurance job).

Speaking of modifying, rang my mechanic. He's quoted me £400 to fit a Superchip and a hi-torque cam to the engine.

He recons it'll make my 1.6 8v Astra faster than the 1.6 16v. He mostly builds rally cars for small local teams, so he knows his 1.6 Vauxhall engines. :) He says the modded 1.6 8v is a better engine than the 16v - more reliable, and more torque.

I'm going to kill myself....but not 'till after November when the NetworkQ warrenty runs out :)

/ adds new forum rule stating that defacing a moderators vehicle for any intention be it for good or for bad is prohibited.

Now let that be a lesson to all of you.
