Got a laptop to have a look at today and basicly it had died and the bloke wanted a new one, no problem.

Now to get his data from one to the other, HDD still had the data there so that shouldn't have been an issue, the old one not having new stuff and the new one not having old bits brought me to the conclusion that It would be easiest to take out the HDD, plug it into a desktop and burn it to CD or something.

Open up the laptop and thing *humm the HDD isn't ver accessible, not good for upgrades*, start unscrewing more.... come to the conclusion that it must just be a really badly designed system and it's gonna be a take it completly apart job.

After removing the 50th piece i'm starting to think it's a pretty bloody small HDD...... turns out it doesn't have one! Maybe this is just me not keeping up to date and being lucky with the jobs I get, but having memory onboard in a machine like that seems madness!

Couldn't use usb storage to transfer as no FDD in new one and so after putting the essensials back together i'm having to move it all from the laptop, to another computer then email it home and burn it to CD.

ARGGGHHHH!!!!

...sorry, just had to get it out of my system.... (no pun intended!).

on some models they fit in behind a cover like a battery.

Did you see anywhere where an lappy ide cable could be attached?

I had it in pieces, each individual part.

I'm 99% that it was actually on the board. There was no HDD (in the usual sence) at all! - It was an NEC, what more can I say!

I still think it's madness!

Can't remember TBH,

HDD about 10/20G
P3, 600 maybe?

Ram onboard as well - didn't check in windows when had it working.....

....hopefully, when I get the data across, i'll be able to cannabalise it for parts, although the CD drive seems to be the only standard, non built in bit!

i cant see how the hdd can be built into it, it will be a 2.5" hdd, shouldnt be that hard to find. they usually put them in a cover to protect them as well.

Thinking about it now - the ONLY way I could have missed it is if they built it into the same removable bit as the FDD and I just took it out without checking... that would have been stupid of me! Can't see why it would be removable then?!

I'm 90% sure that there was only one connector on that though, and not 2.5" space to spare. - Just irritating at the time!

Usually they're always under a flap or keyboard for easy upgrades......

I'll check on mon and if not i'll take a photo!

Well it could be under the floppy drive possible, if the floppy drive is removable then the HDD will come out with it. Ive seen thim fitted into bays in the side like this.
