How do you remove the pins from a molex connector ?

I want to swap the 5V and ground pins to give 7v for a fan, but can not get the pins out.

2 ways,

1> - just cut them off. if you connecting it to fans you don't need the pin anyway.

2> - look into the front of the plug (so you can see the pins) and you will see small "legs"comming out from the pins preventing them from being pushed out of the block. get a small screwdriver, or similar, and just press these legs into the body of the pin. you can then pull them out and re-position the legs back into their original position if needed.

the female molex block are slightly hard because of the reduce space but the principal is the same.

it sounds far harder than it actually is.

very best thing to use to get the molex pins out is the cartridge stripped out of a cheap bic ballpoint, fits over the pins perfectly, and then you can just pull the pin out :)

ts all about bandwidth really, a screwdriver is ok, but slow, as u only have enough bandwidth on it to do 1 barb at a time.

a bic cart has DOUBLE the available bandwidth, enabling the user to do both barbs at the same time, and the great thing is, as the number of barbs increase, the available bandwidth of the cart remains a constant as long as the size of the barb remains the same :)

there 79p each from mappers with 4 new pins, i solder the wires to the pins instead of crimping them, this makes them easily removable and also saves money on buying the correct crimp tool.

That sounds about right . I solder them and then crimp them to make sure they make a good connection and stay that way :)
