Hi folks, I tried a home-made fan muffler box which was lined with some foam. It made a huge difference to the noise from my system (almost completely eliminated it!) but I saw my temperatures creeping up so I took it off again after 15 minutes. I should say the temps were only up a few degrees but they were definitely going up so it looked like a bad plan...

My "proof of concept" was built using chopped up cardboard so when placed over the top of a NeonLight case it looked a bit crap. Okay, very crap. I have however stumbled across Muffled Computing.com (http://www.muffledcomputing.com/mufflers.html) in the States selling a professional muffler for $30 which is about £18 at the moment.

Two questions then:

1. Is anyone using such a device and does it work without affecting airflow too much?

2. Where do you get one since Muffled Computing don't ship outside the US?

Cheers,

Colin

Someone has posted a link to something similar for the shuttles.

The idea looks good in principle, if you don't mind the fact that the lines of your PC will be altered, plus of course you will have to place your case further away from the wall which could be a problem for a large tower.

I haven't heard of anyone selling these in the UK, and importing from the US would probably double your £18 unit cost, if you could find a US supplier who would ship to UK.

If your cardboard cutout concept seemed to work, why don't you have a go at forming a simple aluminium version and lining it with Paxmate foam?

If you go this route, let us know the results!
