Nevilles lost popovic for the first goal rio was standing in no mans land.

Second goal rio tried to play the ball with kewel right behind him.

IMO rio was dire and shouldnt be playing for england until he learns to defend properly. NEvil was his normal carp self.

Beckham tried but with the rest of the team looking crud he had no chance owen got in the positions but couldnt finish and with little or no support from midfield he had no chance.

ALL In all yes we were that bad.
HE should have played gerrard we needed someone with a bit of bite in midfield and scholes just didnt have it.

I was ashamed to be english last night.

I've never rated Ferdinand anyway. Last night he was absolutely sh!te. If we don't get a lot better very quickly we will get stuffed by Turkey at the Stadium of Light. We can't just sweep this under the carpet and say it was only a kick-around. Our defence has always been suspect - until we sort that out we are going nowhere. I don't think that Dyer is England class yet. I think we were relying on the crappy Liverpool style tactics of hoof it up to Owen in the first half instead of playing real football.

End of rant

lol Wouldnt say liverpool tactics cos at least we have a defence that can stop crosses.

Its the thing that annoys me most about england we have players who can play the ball in midfield but we rely on the long ball. Owen is a short player and does a lot better when the ball is played to his feet.

I think with gerrard and heskey in the team the result might have gone better. gerrard would have madea difference in midfield were lampard and dyer looked invisible for the whole half. And heskey does everything on the pitch.

We need to get the defence sorted and rio in the middle is not the answer we need a defender who will whack the ball away instead of someone who is gonna try and play the ball out of trouble.

Neville`s should have been ditched form the england setup in 98 but yet they still get a game.

What sports have we got left now for the ozzies to beat us at ?

SNooker ?

Sing the following song to the tune of "She'll be coming round the mountain":-

If the Nevilles can play for England so can I (repeat forever!!)

Not saying anything about your opinion of Rio Ferdinand, but whacking the ball away is not the answer for any team that wants to be half decient. You need possesion as a first and then you need to be able to turn it into goals.

IMHO Ferdinand and Brown should be the england center backs, as playing together at club level will show through onto the international level.

Yes England lacked bite in midfield but then Scholes isn't that sort of player. Gerard () or Butt are much needed in the center.

Oh and Gary Neville - who would be your choice or right back for England. Don't think there is a better (read more experienced :o ) right back??

Soccer NZ today rejected a request from the FA for an England v NZ
friendly to be played in the NZ winter, saying the game would likely be
'hardly worth it' following lowly England's recent loss to a second-string
Australia side.

'We'd have to make entry to the game free to attract a crowd to see a
low-calibre side like England, and the takings from the raffles and
sausage-sizzle probably wouldn't be enough to cover the cost of the hot
water for the showers, especially when you look at how many bloody players
they have', said Soccer NZ Chairman Bill Munn from his offices at the
Poenamo Pub today.

'It's a bit of shame', added Munn 'cause it looks like they've got some
decent young blokes in their team, and developing soccer nations like
England need exposure to high-standard opponents like the Oceania teams'.

'But if they can't beat Australia, who we've been using as a practise team
over the last few seasons, then they can p*ss off.'

New Zealand All-Whites captain Harry Ngata echoed the Chairman's concerns,
and although thought England could take heart from their recent result,
doubted many of the NZ players could get time off from milking cows to play
the game, and also noted that the game would probably be 'smack in the
middle of lambing season'.

'We're probably better off just concentrating on our upcoming match with
Tonga', Ngata said.

Meanwhile Australia coach Frank Farina has come under fire at home about
the disappointing 3-1 result. He today dismissed criticism regarding his
reluctance to pick 'proper Aussies' for the England match as 'bloody
bullsh*t', instead claiming that the European-based players need a chance
to prove themselves too.

Farina hit back at top NSL clubs, Wollongong Wolves and Brisbane Stars who
were reluctant to release their top players for the international claiming
the match was 'farcical', and insisting that they were better off retaining
their top players for the upcoming matches with league high-flyers, the
Auckland-based Soccer KiNgZ. In some cases clubs were seeking
multi-hundred dollar payouts to release the players for the match dubiously
billed as an 'international', recognising that England is not really a
proper country anyway, just a principality like Wales.

'I'm glad we didn't pull all the blokes from the NSL (National Soccer
League) over there, it could have been an absolute bloody embarrassment. We
could have been lookin' at 6- or 8-nil if we'd had our Australia-based
players, and that's no good for anyone' said Farina.

'Plus with the cost of the flights, it would have been a waste of bloody
money.' Farina's frustration was evident, noting that England coach Sven
Goran Eriksson wouldn't even buy him a beer after the match, despite his
£2m a year pay-packet.

'Swedish w*nker' Farina was heard to have uttered.
Farina was said to be happy with the way the second-stringers performed,
but insisted they were still 'a bunch of bloody poofters who should be
playin' a proper game like Aussie Rules or League.'

Sharkey, we can see yuor colours but that doesn't mean they can play as well for England as they do at OT. You could read "older" for "more experienced".

MY comments didnt come accross right there. What I was getting at is in the situation rio was in with kewel he should have belted the ball out instead he tried to play it out against a player who he should know very well.

I dont think rio is worth anything near 30 million. Sorry if you disagree but I dont rate him that highly.

English defenders are at a premium at the moment which is sad because its were we have the most problem

There are some decent youngsters coming through so who knows.

I know i`ll get shot down for this but I think carragher is a far better defender than NEville.

Ah... now I see your point. Personally I don't think any of he huge money being thrown around in football is right. Yeah its nice to see Rio Ferdinand and Juan Veron strutting their stuff, but think of what good the £60 million combined fees could have gone to elsewhere. I could have 10 new computers built by Kustom and some change!! (But only a bit :D :D )

Oh and the Carragher thing  :p

I think Danny Mills was brilliant for England in Japan. True he made a mistake in the 1st game - but no other defender was there to back him up or help him out. No - I'm not a Leeds fan.

I cant believe Dean Richards wasnt in the squad - he's been towering for spurs this season. Better than King in fact

Prices on english players are stupid.
