How loud is the 9700 Pro?
I have an order placed for the Ultimate edition (the heat pipe one) from Sapphire, but the lead time looks long and I'm eager to get my new rig up and running.
Prefer quantative rather than qualative comparisons.
Cheers,
Paul
Look on the manufacturers sites for info on quantative levels of noise , but they are loud :)
Fingers crossed, it appears to use the same fan and heatsink as the 9500 Pro and it dind't sound too bad.
Mind you, adding a Zalman ZM-80-HP passive heatsink is ever so slightly quieter!

I've decided to go for the Crucial 9700 pro, at £237 including vat and delivery I will put up with the noise.
I'll post a reply when my system is up and running to let you know the noise levels.
Cheers,
Paul

The Crucial 9700 Pro is actually one of the quieter ones. It's certainly audable if I take the side off my case, but not with the side on. I have a single Papst 19CFM fan in the front of my case, and a silent YSTech in the back at 7v, along with the 60mm Sanyo Denki at 7v on the Akasa heatsink.

The fans on the ati cards are usually quieter than GeForce Ti cards in my experience but I don't have figures to back that up. They're actually not too bad, but if you want silence - test your card is working properly and when you're satisfied with that, consider fitting a Zalman ZM80HP kit

why go passive, The zalman zm80 kit looks good with it"s heat pipe, Perhaps worth trying, but i have looked on other forums which suggest that you still need some sort of fan cooling if you expect to get lower temps. Of course the fan would be low rpm so it would be ultra quite.
Personally i would rather put the £30.00 it"ll cost you towards a water cooling kit which would give you very low temps + no noisy fans whinning away at all :D
The new wet & chilly chips is a first class water cooling kit for the price of £142.00. I have the kit in my set up and my temps are so cool:D :D :D
