We can't get GTA IV to restore from Steam backup - can anyone wanting to play that game try to have it downloaded before packing up their PC.
Everything else seems okay so far and can be installed at LAN if need be.

I bought the non-steam version and this is probably a stupid question but will it still work?

I believe GTA IV co-exists happily on multiplayer between the disc and Steam versions.
Fairly sure we've had a mix of these before.
Make sure Games for Windows Live is signed if possible.

My dvd of the game is wrecked so may need to borrow someones unless episodes from liberty city works as the discs for that are fine.

Will TF2 be on the FTP?, as I don't think I'll have enough time to install it before hand.

Most are likely to be using Steam version so can't be sure if there will be any discs there, but maybe BryanHand will see your post / bring a disc.
You'll need to have your own key with you though if you're reinstalling as the game needs to authenticate on Games for Windows Live for network play.

I'm using steam version too but at the time I just copied and pasted the contents of the folder into 2 dual layer dvdr's as didnt realise Steam had a buiit in backup option.
Whenever I reinstall a game I just click on install, then stop it then copy and paste folder and Steam sees it as a 100% install minus any updates. so if anyone could ftp me the files it would be good enough.

Can move a backup of the game folder on to our server for you.
If all else fails, there's a 20Mb line so providing nobody else is downloading much (and the point of having as much of the backups stored locally already usually prevents that) means you should be able to download fairly quickly if copying it across doesn't work.
The inbuilt backup facility doesn't seem to work with GTA at the moment for some reason though, just falls flat on its face.
