Im a graphics designer in a printing company. The thing that REALLY anoys me is when i have to deal with people that dont have a CLUE what is going on.

I have just spent 3/4 of an hour on the phone to tell someone to re-send the artwork in a vector based format( after i explained what that was), only to recieve the same incorrect stuff again. After another lenghty conversation i get vector artwork, that is incorrect.

OMG by this time my head is exploding. I find it funny when you have to deal with people in a job that they have no idea how to do it.

I bet there are more tales of people who dont have a clue out there.

I bet He/She was a manager? 85 % of managers have not got a clue. I use to work for an large IT company and the area manger had no IT skills he even needed help to turn on a laptop :D

But had 540 BMw and £90k a year

how to these people get thier jobs :confused:

I could write a book about web related stories but don't want to offend anyone :D

As for print, been there, done that :)

Client: I'll supply my own images.
Next day a digital camera arrives, they didn't know how to get the pictures off...

Us: Please read and check your proof correctly
Client: OK
<two days later>
Client: The telephone number on my business card is wrong.
Us: Well it the same as the one you wrote down for us (produces paper)
Client: Yes, that was my old number
Us: :rolleyes:

We'd offer to do artwork, client would say: "I've got my own"

We'd say: "What DPI is it at."
<blank look>
We'd say: "Is it 72dpi"
They'd say: "Yes, yes that's it."
We'd say: "Sorry, we need at least 300dpi"
<blank look>
They'd say: Why?
We'd say: Its fairly common in print

<pause>

We'd say: Is it in <insert format>?
They'd say: No, I did it in publisher at home.
We'd then say: "Would you like us to redo the artwork for you"
They'd usually say: "yes"

If they'd only contacted us first we could have told them how to do it right if the really did want to do it themselves.

one of the funniest sources of clients ineptness was here:dreamless (http://www.derailer.org/clientquotes.php) but its offline at the moment. You can still find some of them if the google cache, well worth a look.

cheers

alastair

The staff at PC World stores seem equally inept. First time I went looking for an external CD-ReWriter they took me right to the shelf and the assistant picked one up for me, over-eager to help as ever. After I pointed out that he had an internal one he muttered and put it back and picked up another for me. Yet another internal one. After a third failed attempt to tell external from internal he muttered again and ran off, saying that if I needed help just to ask someone.

Recently went to price new OEM motherboard, processor and hard drive (why are 2.2GHz Athlons about £70 dearer than 2.1?). Anyway, they told me that, contrary to their signs, if I booked in for a PC healthcheck, they would fit everything for free. I went, got my PC and came back. Only to discover that the guy was talking Sh1t. They wanted £25 per item.

Decided to buy alloys for my Clio instead.

PS - PC World also sold my Dad (who doesn't have huge knowledge of computers) the wrong type of RAM three times.

I wouldn't let PC World near my PC if they paid me!

I was in pc world the other day and was surpirsed to see that even though specialist shops havent been able to get hold of the 333mhz fsb xp`s they have them in speeds of 1600, 1800, 2000 and 2200.
I also heard a sales rep tell a bloke that he`d need to be a scsi hard drive and card if he wanted to do video editing.

And last year i went to buy a modem cos mine wouldnt work in linux. I knew what one I wanted but I thought i`d ask the peeps at the counter to be sure. Went up with the modem and asked if it was linux compatible. The bloke said that the staff member who`d used linux was on his lunch so I`d have to wait. Walked around the store for a bit and came back and cahtted to the bloke he was totally clueless. he looked on the box and it had windows compatible but nothing about linux. He told me it wasnt linux compatible. I put it back went home logged onto dabs webpage and ordered the exact same modem but guess what it works with linux. funny that :p

Yeah phone shop people are idiots. Except one guy at the Vodafone shop, because he knew what I wanted, mainly because he had one himself. But I went into the link a year ago and asked about bluetooth on phones, he knew nothing and didn't even know thats phones had it...:o

Yeah i guess so, but still a £1 reduction is pathetic. It's almost as bad as GAME's so-called "sales" - £5 off their worst selling games, lol.

We put our ketchup in the cupboard. And it's my dad that makes sure it gets turned upside down. One bottle had been empty, according to me,several times before my dad would accept the truth... :rolleyes:

Now there's a subject for rantage. It says "keep refrigerated" on the side, put it in the bloody fridge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A sausage sandwich is glorified only by cold tomato ketchup, not room temperature, cold.

Fridge it! :D

nooo HP sauce is the best sauce out there, you cant have it cold either, otherwise it makes the hot sausage or bacon butty go cold more quickly, keep sauces in the cupboard.

Thats what I always thought... why make a hot thing cold after all that cooking? I hate HP, too many spices for my liking keep it plain and simple for me :)

You obviously don't eat it fast enough. That would be because it's not as appetising as mine, due to the fact you don't have cold tomato ketchup on it - lol :D :D

Forthy
04-02-2003, 13:58
Not a HP fan tbh, but all the sauces I've got here in my fridge namely: Tom Ket, Garlic Sauce, Salad Cream, American Mustard and Sweet onion Mustard - - all say "once opened keep refrigerated and consume within 8 weeks"

It's still better cold anyway :p

HP sauce doesn't have to be refrigerated, - it's Heinz Tomato Sauce that states "once opened, keep refrigerated".
