Theme Day 25, GTA IV Night Friday 3rd February [Archive]

Grand Theft Auto IV LAN Party night on Friday 3rd February. Arrival any time from 5pm, with the event running 6pm - 11pm. £5 for attendance.

We've done this one before but

1. We didn't get to explore anywhere near all the possibilities the last time.
2. Cops n crooks is an absolute hoot.
3. I've not picked out things properly for flight night yet so that will be moved to later in the month.

Ah yeh, I'll move to the 3rd Feb instead of the 10th.

3rd doesn't work too well for me, but it may be I'll just get the event set up and let you guys carry on, doesn't take much organisation on my part.

Just forgot, was trying to structure the theme nights as best as possible as I've already got a heap of work commitments over the next month or so.

What you worrying about? Business comes first and you might even see us at these foreign shindigs.

Personally, I 'm still toying with the idea of Epic 8.

Downloading it again. I have a backup but steam won't let me restore the backup for some reason.

Same actually - spotted this when restoring stuff on to the store PCs at the weekend, you run the backup restore and then it just starts downloading the game instead.

Have you tried deleting all local content and then running the backup? If you've started to download a game in the past, even if just 1% of the game is there, attempting to restore from a backup will only prompt Steam to download the game instead.

I know I certainly did that but it still would only download this game. Aware of that same issue, but GTA seemed to be an exception.

Fixed the backup problem :). Apparently switched to a newer way of restoring games so backups made before the update won't work any more. Had to use a program called phoenix to restore my old backup and it worked.

Don't think so as most of my library was restored fine , only things that didn't work were gta4, mw2, dirt 2, and l4d2.

I restored backups of Dirt3, CSS, TF2 succesfully. Just GTA that wouldn't work.

That's comforting to here. I'd hate for 340GB worth of backups to go to waste and neither myself nor BT would be terribly happy if I had to download 500+GB of games again.

At that amount of notice, no - takes time to install and move a computer there and was already busy with getting everything else organised, so can't really do that on the spot.

I've totally forgotten...do I need to bring my peripherals?

For future reference, yes if possible. Got a couple of crappy old keyboards and mice about, but just pointing out for reference that I always ask for own peripheral kit to be brought over as the store display products are cable routed and they've ended up getting food on them from previous LANs so want to avoid that to keep them pristine.

Just started laughing again when I remembered this moment...

Saying 'Don't worry guys, I got this' during a game of Cops 'n' Crooks, while arriving to the scene where the criminals literally just escaped seconds ago, doing a barrell roll out of your police car, which is on fire, before then falling into the ocean and dying. I cried from laughing so much.

It's what makes his style so wonderful.

Interestingly, there's a lot of mods for GTA IV - including new co-op multiplayer missions and icenhancer which is a whole new model / texture pack with real world cars.

You severly overestimate our computers if you think anyone other than Ian or Dex will be playing that on the main rigs.

I got icenhancer to work nicely with my rig, but then I ruined my install and had to remove it :/

Note to self - turn off SLi before playing GTA IV next time, instead of halfway through. Yup, I lagged out with my SLi rig :eek:, not majorly though. Mind you it still benchmarked at 60+ fps in either setup, it just didn't lag with SLi off.
