Why?
Why does it have to happen to us?
Marathon = Snickers
Juicy Fruits = Starburst
Oil of Ulay = Oil of Olay
Jif = Cif
We all know that a single global brand is cheaper to market but why do I get the feeling that it's always the UK brands that get changed?
Grrrr!

Shuttle XPC SS51G = Creative Labs Slix. Same system only costing more than normal due to the Creative Labs branding and worht less overall due to Creatives crappy driver suport (which no doubt they have rebadged the onboard audio chop as a SoundBlaster SliX) :)

ok I've not seen that film so I have no idea what you're talking about, sounds good though!:)
Along the lines of changing names how about actually changing the product itself.
What im referring to is Milky Way. The original Milky Way bar had a milk chocolate soft nougot filling, then they released a special edition with the white chocolate filling. Then the milk chocolate filling one dissapeared. That was the best one of the two, did anyone else notice that?

Kynoch, not only are you sooooo right, but I've been trying to convince everyone I know that Milky-Way's used to be different and the change was for the worse but nobody believed me! You have saved my sanity friend!
Also, aren't King Size Pot Noodles actually the old standard size?????????? :rolleyes:

Wotsits have now been 'improved' by Walkers and they taste aweful compared to the old ones/ They are more like the supermarket own brand 'chees puffs' now.
yeah, but the good ol' salt+shake is still as tasty as ever! :D
I thought smiths had the original Salt ans shake?
Now i have seen walkers re-releasing them.

This is true. I know that you could still get the Smith salt and shake as little as a few months ago, so maybe walkers bought them out?
I have a multipack of the smith salt n' shakes i bought the other day, so they are still around.
Seeing as im cheif shelf stacker of the crisp deparment i can say Smiths salt & shake are still very much alive .. only recently (start of 2003) have they changed the packaging .. thankfully not to much from the original ..
Salt & Shake will never die :)
i remember the old mily ways :(
altho tbh, i didnt realise they had even changed em, theyre so ickle,, i just pop em in to my mouth, never to be seen again (in milky way form anyway)

most stuff was called different names in England to those they were given in mainland Europe and worldwide for some vaguely plausable reasons:
Snickers = Nickers (ooooh that's not very British now is it stiff upper lip and all that)
Cif = Syph(illis) The concept of wiping down surfaces with a bottle of venereal disease does not give a feeling of good hygiene
But I can't think of any good reasons for Oil of Olay, and for Opal fruits because they were perfectly good names. But hey we live in a globalised world now, we may as well be singing from the same songbook.
But if we start saying Nucular as opposed to Nuclear then I will personally launch an assualt on slackjawed Texan heads of state responsible for this horrendous corruption of the English Language
I already find myself slipping sometimes and saying aloominum
:(

That is a very good point. Product rebranding does nothing but confuse ppl. When i saw the first Oil of Olay ad, I was shocked that someone thought they could get away with ripping off Oil of Ulay so blatantly, lol.
While we're on the subject, maybe Des O'Connor should be rebranded or just decapitated. Walked into the living room the other day to hear him cracking a great new joke
Des: I once ate a chocolate bar for eight hours. That was a marathon, I can tell you.
How original, considering they only changed the name about 15 years ago, lol.

Almost forgot.
Does anyone remember the brief spell when COCO POPS were renamed Choco Krispies before the mass protest forced them to change it back?
