Lovely job there Gordy, particularly impressed with the work on the PSU. Looked like a tricky and time consuming bit of work.:D

Nice artical.
Cheers psu took an hour but was worth it imho :)
Nice one Gordy, I ilke it.
It looks very nice aswell
HI Gordy,
I have made my machine silent before, but upgrading to faster bits has raised the temps, and thus had to speed up silent fans and wot not and its quite noisey now.
I also changed my 300w silent PSU from quietpc.com to a 430w Enermax as it has a speed control on the fan, and I was told that this was as silent as the quietpc 400w ones, and cheaper!
Well I now don't think thats actually the case, its not monsterously noisey but its also not quiet... So I have been thinking about putting in some Papst fans in. But do the fans have the little 3 pin connectors like on the mobo, or do you have to do soldering type stufff!
Haven't done soldering since I was about 12 - 14 years ago, and I don't remember being particularly good at it back then, so think I would be reluctant to do it with out some expert guidence :D

Papst fans generally come with 4 pin molex plugs attached, there are some exceptions tho'.
Break out that soldering iron!
But don't start connecting 120mm Papsts to your motherboard or you might blow something. 80mm and 92mm Papsts will be fine.

Given that the Papsts have a well defined rpm, why connect them to the motherboard? You don't need the rpm sensors, the fans Kustom stock are so quiet, no speed control is required.
You should have kept your 300w PSU, I'm quite sure it was up tot he job.
Gordy - Brilliant article, couldn't of written it better myself! :D
Though, I looked on the QuietPC site - And there seemed to be a lot of restrictions on which HDDs you can use. :(
