Nope , but a host nation in the olympics can insert a sport (or what it deams to be a sport , gut barging anyone), same has been said about darts and snooker as well.

Why shouldn't it be? We have race drivers, which arent all too different. Neither go out on a field and run about, although yes the race driver does get out there are work their guts off. But from what I have seen and played LAN gamers can get just as active and work just as hard ;):)

I'm going to say no here.
IMO its perceived to be more of a leisure activity.
But then again, the same could be said about darts.

unfortuantatly f1 drivers have to be fit as hell , one to keep their weight down (it is monitored) and two because its a struggle to keep the thing on the track , even though its power steered its still physically demanding. The g forces are mental , most end up needing some serious back work and dentistry because of vibration.
Ask any motocross , rally driver or bike racer if they need to be fit.
The reason the f1 vewing figures are going down is the tech ( and dodgy place dealings) , when its not a good spectator grabber its wrongly considered less of a sport , hence why there are few people that would pay sky a fiver to watch a lan tournie , that and advertisers dont consider it sexy enough to buy the advertsing airtime.
I think the fitness issue raised really does apply here. To go to a LAN you can be as fit as you like, super human or super gut. This also applies to darts and (to some extent) snooker. So its not really a sport, just a activity to pass the time and have some fun. Sure it can be competitive, but I don't think we'll ever see it at the olympics.

So we have our own version of the olympics - The World Cyber Games...

surely anything that involves some form of training and a competition between numerous people could be classed as a sport?
I think the problem lies with (like most things) that there are too many definitions of what constitutes a sport. Training and competition is just one then there are others like the fitness issue.
But... maybe training to become better at a game could be classed as being fitter for it? hummmm....

I know - if you said 'I do sport' , you wouldn't think of sitting in front of a pc, but by definition - isn't darts a sport? A lot of darts players don't look very fit !
thats true. There is skill but not really fitness. I think fitnees and ability/skill kind of overlap really. If a football or rugby player wasn't fit their ability to contribute to the team would be severaly deminished.
So what sports do you like/do then Graeme??
would be cool. seeing as im rubbish at most sports (im not as bad at rugby) there is one id be good at. anyway olympic training involing hours in front of a comp sounds good.

I used to do a lot of mountain biking , but don't really get the spare time any more to be honest (work pretty much rules most of my life these days...)
Made it to a few downhill competitions just for fun, but that was about the extent of it :)
I really want to get out on the bike a bit more this year (one of my new year res !) as it's just sitting in the garage gathering dust and I really am getting a bit un-fit !!
As it happens though - I'm terrible at computer games.. I'm interested in them from a technology point of view but i always get slaughtered in all the 1st person shooters !

Well they do travel at speeds approaching 200 miles an hour and could die each time they get into teh car. You on the other hand only need fear your tower falling over or possibly soiling yourself after hours on-line.

Or deep vain thrombosis
But yeah, race drivers have much much much more work to do than gamers.
