View Full Version : Car pc for ford puma?
I am seriously wanna build a car pc for my ford puma.
Need parts but not sure where to start.
My car have 1,8 din 6000 CD player.
I believe I can use 1 din if I buy a bracket to fit.
I am thinking of 1 din car pc with touch screen motorized.
SPEAK commands (mic)
Possible to use windows XP
possible to connect to (car diagnostic)
(low watt use)
Might be worth checking to see if there's enough space to slot in a 7" screen in there as it's typically so much more elegant and practical than single DIN adapters and fold out screens.
We've dropped the fold out screens from our range as there were none we could find that had as good screen performance as the standalone units - in terms of brightness / visibility.
Pop out your existing stereo, get the measuring tapes and see if there's enough space to get a full screen housing in there :) Single model forums are often a good resource here, as chances are someone has already tried it. Looks like there's a few Puma forums / groups so it's worth checking there to see if someone has done it already.
For the rest of the system, you can build out a unit based on one of the barebones shells. If you email our sales address I can attach a suggested spec for you.
I originally came from a ford puma forum someone recommended this page.
I dont like the CD/DVD solution. But Its a small car not much place, not many opportunity's.
This guy have used a 7" Lilleput screen in a ford puma. Its a bit old 2007.
I'd say most systems wouldn't need a CD drive - sure, it's needed to load up the operating system at first, but after that you can transfer all of your media by USB flash drive, external hard disk or even Wifi if you're feeling adventurous and can get the car near enough to your network...
Personally I feel half the benefit of a Car PC is to rid the car of carrying lots of discs.
I cant see a pc without a DVD/CD player. It so useful when ripping CD music, watching a new movie, booting programs.
But I agree the USB / hardriver is the most important part.
What price are we talking about for a screen with the spec I mention earlier?
Sales queries are handled through email only, as above, email us and I'll draw up a suggested spec from our range.
Regarding ripping music - do that on your home computer and then transfer it in bulk by USB or hard disk.
Chances are it will do the job faster and then it saves you doing the job (ripping) twice. Just have it all done on one central library and take a copy of that to the Car PC.
But Still wanna have a DVD/CD player.
I am gonna find a place for it.
