Seti@Home ... (Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence) is a project which does exactly what it says on the tin :D
I personally crunch Genome@Home, but there are many different projects of this type - which all have basically the same function... to aid scientists in researching whatever the respective client/project is named - namely Seti (as above), Geneome (to do with genes) etc etc ;)
Hope that helps clarify things a little DarkAngel :D
FYI: If you wanted to find out more about this kinda thing, a search using the two names I've mentioned would... I've no doubt, bring up 100's of pages of links. An even broader '@Home' search would likely bring up a whole load more of the projects being run :)

Oh yeah, I think I've heard of that somewhere before...
I'd better not try it though, all the junk I've installed on this PC would probably completely mess up their research! lol
Just started crunching here again..
