Hi All

Sorry to bother you again with such a stupid question, but I am going mad. I have two PCS on a network, both running XP Pro.

The server machine with the net connection is always on, and its main role is that of a web and file server, but I also use it to convert avi/divx files to VCD.

My second pc is then therefore free to do what I need it to do, without hogging massive amounts of CPU power when I need to convert video files.

Anyways the prob that I have is that I dont want to have to go to the server machine everytime I want to do something like the video files or change my web site (that it hosts) around a little, so does anyone know of any software that I can run on my second PC that will allow me to take over the server PC, so I can set things up, without having to actually go to the server PC?????

Surely there must be something out there, and please let it be easy to use.

All help as always sorely apperiated.

Cheers

Rab

I control all the PCs on my network with it. :)

You do have the software built into XP Pro to be able to do this. It is called Remote Assistance.

Aye I know about Remote Assistance, but ahem my Windows are EXACTLY the same version, so would it still work without having to send any worrying signals to Microsoft???

Thanks guys for your help, but I found a nice bit of software called Cool Remote, got it from www.tucows.com, basically the prog comes in two bits the controller and the server, run the server on the machine you wish to control, and the controller, on the other machine, and thats it, it even automatically found the machines lan ip addresses, so that was handy as feck for me, as I am pretty new to networks, so I am well pleased.

(Although WinVNC)

Handy prog - Doesn't use much resources. (Run's on an AMD 586, 133MHz with a whole 24MB RAM! Ooooooh, powerful)

Offtopic:

The open source video renderer Vidomi (http://www.vidomi.com/) has renderfarm support for XviD/DivX encoding.

But IMO, you should keep all CPU-chugging apps offof any server unless they're absolutely neccesary (and no, encoding isn't a server app, is it?). Just queue up your rips in Virtual Dub, start the job(s) when you go to bed, and by the time you get back from work they'll all be done.
