View Full Version : New Xbox Experience
Anyone else installed it yet? Just finding my way around, but it seems pretty slick so far.
Takes some getting used to but I do quite like it. That said the way you can go in 4 directions on the menu is such a blatant copy of the Windows Media Center interface that it makes me wonder why they didn't do it to begin with.
The play from hard drive feature should be great, the racket the DVD drive makes drives me nuts when I'm playing games. Kinda need a bigger hard drive though...
Mine is an elite, so I have the 120GB hard drive. It is so much quieter playing games from it though, makes a huge difference. I think the neighbours will thank me too ;)

just like the PS3 and PSP already does then ?
Well you could always move in 4 directions with the old blade system, it's just the way it's organised seems rather close to the MCE interface.

Not had a chance to play with it yet, as my Xbox RROD'd yesterday, unfortunatly.
Should have a new one by the weekend. w00tcake.
It's really nice. And the copying to hard drive rocks. :D
About the hard drive. If i was to buy the 120gig how would i transfer stuff (saved games etc, xbox live games) to the new drive. Sorry to high jack the thread a bit.
Im typing this from work and trying to google it brings the wrath of our over protective firewall in to play
I think it comes with a cable which transfers the files (one shot only) or you may have to send away to MS (I think it may be the latter). It is definitely possible to transfer the files across (there is a thread on the AV Forums about it called AV Forums bike where they are sending one of those cables around all the members who are upgrading the hard drives, rather than obtaining a new one)

I'm liking the new look a lot, although there does seem a fair bit of useless menus that take you round in circles! Still prefer the PS3 dash myself.

Thumbs up from me too. Maybe a bit over-glitzy and less functional than the old one; "to hell with usability, let's make it look pretty like a PS3". But on the whole I can live with it ;)

So far it's crashed my 360 3 times while moving around the Friends menu :( Other than that it's pretty nice - much faster than the old one.

You've already been advised what you need, but here's the official (http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/support/systemuse/xbox360/console/datamigration.htm) speil.
But you can get one here (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B000ENN85W/) (it costs £19.00 delivered);)

It's actually odd - if I leave it a while, it'll start up again, but I only need to hang around in the dashboard for a few minutes and the box locks up again - totally freezes. Restart, and it's RROD.

I know mate - I'm on my third already; I know the process well ;)
Jeez, I thought they had sorted most of those problems out now. 3 Xboxes lol.

UPS coming on Monday... I've said time and time again, customer service is excellent and the whole process is very painless, but a 4th time is taking the p*** now :( particularly over just a bleeding software update... it's a good job for Microsoft that I hate Sony so much. Maybe I should look into one of those wishy-washy kiddies things, a Nintendo? ;)

That's a bit of bad luck :( Touch wood I've not had that problem yet.
thats a little disheartening.. i hope this doesn't happen to me either -_- ...
it's 'alright' takes a little getting used to and themes are now borked a bit tbh.
The avatars are a nice take on things but not groundbreaking or anything...
I don't like that they have now enforced you to have a hard drive to play online / update to the new dashboard, my buddy just got Gears 2 and now can't play online as he can't afford the absolutely flipping ridiculously priced (how are they still getting away with this) hard drives...

Take it everyone knows that they can link to their NXE avatars?
This is my avatar. If you don't know what I look like, let me tell you, it's uncanny, to be honest. Except the tshirt. But they didn't have Biffy Clyro tshirts on xbox for some reason :(

Just change NAME to your gamertag, and away you go.
Same for the smaller icon pics:

Heh, just for a laugh here's my avatar.

Doesn't look much like me.. I have less hair and more around the middle :)
As for the NXE itself, I installed it, made an avatar and haven't played anything on my xbox since.
I like the sound of the install to hard drive feature but since you have to put the disk in anyway I'm not sure I'll bother. In fact writing this has just put me in the mood to go play some Rock Band!

Thought I'd add my avatar. It doesn't resemble me in any way, but still amusing!
