hey guys,

i installed vista ultimate on my new pc, and everything installed fine, but i cant open control panel or personalize and some other things.

i googled around for ages, installed Sp1, installed a reg cleaner, and tried some cmd commands, nothing has worked so far.

when i try to open control for example, the window comes up and then flicks and disappears. and i cnt even get personalize to flicker.

just wondering if anyone has had the problem before and knows the solution, if there even is one XD

Thanks Guys

Sparkz

Disable UAC?

Long shot but I know it is very overreactive :p

TweakUAC allows control of UAC...

If you've got a fresh install that isn't working, I'd be trying a reinstall...

Can you check the event log to see if there's an error after trying to open COntrol panel or such like?
Might give us some clues.

Otherwise, as Westy said, if it's a vanilla install that you haven't set up or copied your data to yet, just install again.

i just reinstalled it, and it does the same thing, but the first time i open control panel it is blank :O and then it closes after about 20-30 secs
and then all i get after that is the flicker

how do i check the event log?

start, then type 'event viewer' in the search bar.

Is this an OEM or retail / upgrade install?

So in other words, you went to the store to rent it?

I wanted to say that this sounded very much like the strange things that dodgy copies of Windows do, but it would've been very high-horse-alike without proof.
