computor crashes at annoying times !!

im running a pc,
AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2800+
2.09 GHz, 1.00GB of RAM

XP pro pack 2
it comes to a compleate halt when i try and acces a program that uses the hdd, its runs fine browsing the net and doing basic things, but stops when i try to copy stuff on or off the drive, access world of warcraft, halo, bf2, unreal tornament 3

any ideas or if mother board on its way out?

I think you'll find that it is consistently reading and writing to the HDD, not just when you try and access a program. Is the HDD making any strange noises; have you used Task Manager to see if there is a process that maxes out when you try and open a program; have you downloaded and installed any software recently?

the hdd is sounding fine, n all the time im not doing anything that not demanding on the hdd theres nothing in the task manager thats maxed out, n i cant accest the task manager when it stops, i lose all controll

Is the HDD full or nearly full?
