eh... I'm a bit computer illiterate, but my speakers are logitech (but the old dell ones are doing the same thing) its a compaq with windows xp pro version 2002 service pack 2 and intel pentium d with 2.0 gb of ram? I hope thats what you need! if not feel free to laugh and then ask in twits language!!
When you say the bass box is working, are you hearing bass noise from it, or just simply that the lights on it are on?

there is actually faint music coming from it, even when the speakers are off! Its crazy they were working fine before I installed skype and now they've gone mad! I've checked all my leads and stuff and they've not moved so I don't get whats going wrong. Although with my not great knowledge of computers it could be very simple!

Check the volume control in windows?
Not sure if skype changes it but worth checking especially as it only takes 3 seconds.

yeah that was one of the first things I did and they all appear to be on and working. I'm really confused!

Does your sound card work? try connecting headphones or different speakers.

I've tried different speakers and their doing the same thing. Is there any other way I can check the sound card is working?

I've worked out where the noise in coming from! Its not the base but my actual skype phone which sits in front of it, so somehow the computer is recognising my phone as the speakers and nothing else!! How do I fix that?
I'm guessing it's a USB device? Windows will have assumed that's the default audio device and changed it accordingly. I'm not sure if you can have two audio devices playing happily together?
You could try right mouse clicking on your speaker icon in the system try (bottom right of your screen) and selecting "adjust audio properties" Then go to the "Audio" tab and changing the default device for sound playback to what ever doesn't mention USB or Skype in its description.

Fat Jez! Many Thanks, I disconnected the lot, reconnected the speakers and then my phone and then changed the default device and it worked!! thank you I was beginning to get rather annoyed, obviously I can't live for more than 12 hours without my music playing!
