hey guys...
im not sure how popular laptops are on this forum with it being more of gaming forum and all....
anyways i am having a few problems with the battery. the laptop is an ACER TRAVELMATE 2410. the battery will last about 45 mins or so... but when it aows up on windows it will only charge to 98%..... after 5 mins is wil show 7% with 3.5 hours remaining..... and then after about 20 mins it will drop down to 3% with one hour remaining.... another 20 mins later and it shuts off....

its a 2000mah li-lion battery..

origonally i thought it was a memory effect problem with the batery but aparantly you cant get mem effect problems with li-lion batterys...

im stuck....
i dont fancy foking out for a new one.... is there anything i can do practically or in windows to make it last longer or at least make the meter work better....

memory isn't a problem with lipo as you say... how old is the laptop?

Leaving the battery in while it remains plugged into the wall for long periods can kill the battery more quickly. My laptop battery now lasts the whole of 15 minutes and it's only 2 yrs old...

laptop is about 2 years old now.... i think when my brother used it for a brief period he left it plugged into the wall for a few days.. maybe weeks.....

charging to lower than 100% would be pretty normal in my experience then... these things do have limited life unfortunately.

the battery read out problem is probably windows just having a special moment and struggling to cope.

charge it up to full then run it right down to zero a few times (i.e. on battery) and see if that helps?

Second fat jez, otherwise, these are the symptoms of a knackered battery.

Li-ion is immune to the memory effect, but that doesn't mean the cells don't die off after a while unfortunately.

the battery is gone, trust me I had a similar thing happen with my old sharp laptop and the battery now lasts for all of 1 second before running out of power, still fine on mains though

Li-ion batteries do eventually lose capacity (think ipods, which used cheap ones and were very susceptible to it happening). Unfortunately you can't do much except live with it or replace the battery.

Jacob has hit the nail on the head here.

You could try and see if the BIOS has a battery conditioning function, this Ergo poj that I'm using does. Won't help much, but it may get you a few more minutes...

A quick Google shows that a replacement battery isn't prohibitively expensive? You're talking in the region of £40(+ P&P).

£38.27 (http://www.batterycenter.co.uk/battery.php?e_classcode=1&e_mabrand=QWNlcg==&e_mamodel=VHJhdmVsTWF0ZSAyNDEw&NO=M&gclid=CMKuzbOHiZYCFQuH1QodZgMFFg) / £38.48 (http://www.battery-store.co.uk/batt-4-laptop/acer-travelmate-2410.htm) / £38.80 (http://www.laptop-battery-inc.co.uk/laptop-batteries/acer-travelmate-2410.htm) / £39.01 (http://www.my-batteries.co.uk/laptop-batteries/acer-travelmate-2410.htm) ;)

Strangely though... those are all 4400mAh? Are you absolutely sure yours is just 2000mAh?
