Hi there!

Last night, i turned on my PC and got stuck at the "MS Corporation" loading bar for 15 mins before it finally loaded up! This has NEVER happened before! The first time this happened was last night!

I have tried to following:

Reset the CMOS
Put Bios back to default settings
Ran Virus Scan
Ran PerfectDisk 2008 SMARTPlacement Defrag Cycle
Cleaned out Registry
Un-Installed most recently added program (Tomb Raider 2 with Vista Patch)

---

My spec is:

Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 (3.16 Ghz Dual Core)
4 Gig DDR2 RAM
Nvidia Geforce 260
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi
NForce 680i
800W Power Supply
1TB Samsung Hard Drive

For more info. I usually leave the machine on during the night to download stuff. Longest it has been on in 1 turn was nearly 18 hours.

Virus, Spyware and Defrag Scans are done Weekly, sometimes more.

Registry is cleaned every 2 weeks.

---

Please help! I am at my wits end!

Registry is cleaned every 2 weeks.

Never did trust these reg cleaner thingys...

Check your event log...I've no idea how to find it in Vista, but I'm sure it'll be there. See if there is anything giving it gip.

Either that or just don't turn our machine off. Mine takes about 6minutes to fully boot, so I just leave it on all day and night. It gets pretty decent uptime for an XP box.

15 mins - there has to be something screwed up somewhere, I would say reinstall windows myself to clear it. I agree about reg cleaners, not always that good, even more so with vista.

6 mins - blimey I thought mine was bad at 2.5 mins to useable state (mainly due to acrobat and 90% of all my hard drives used at present)

So does it take that long every time now? Or was it a one off?

Yeah! Still 15 mins!

About 7 mins at MS Corp Screen and the rest at a plain black screen.

When I get to windows, there seems to be nout wrong. Speed and response is fine. In fact, just the same as ever.

UPDATE:
Checked event log. Had a HUGE list of errors relating to a file called 'nvstor32' and the event ID is 5. How to I resolve it?

PLEASE HELP!

UPDATE:
Opened event viewer and it says for each nvstor32 error:

'A parity error was detected on \Device\RaidPort1.'

nvstor is nvidia raid drivers iirc and your second post kind of backs this up.

Check for new/updated drivers and then try uninstall and reinstall, make sure its disabled in the bios too if you're not using it.

Backup all important data to be safe too.

edit: parity raid 1 - I'm assuming its saying you've got a failed drive in a 2 disk mirrored raid, have you got a mirrored raid setup (if no theres your problem). I think it may be slow as its trying to rebuild the raid array that (it thinks) you have

No, I have no RAID setup on my PC. Just the one Hard Drive.

And Im running the latest Mobo Software.

Sorry to sound like a complete nutter, but how do I go about fixing the bug?

check your bios and see if raid is configured anywhere and turn off if it is, with one disk you don't need it.

There might be a boot time option for nvraid too.

As to in windows not a clue as I don't use nvraid.

Firstly, as LSG said, back up your shiz, just in case.

I'd start by doing a ChkDsk:
Right click C: drive, properties, tools, Check for Errors,
Select 'Fix Filesystem', de-select 'check for bad sectors'

It'll say the disk is in use and ask to run on next boot, say yes, and then restart.

After restarting and chkdsk'ing restart it again and see if it takes as long.

You could also try connecting the drive to a different SATA port... maybe the one it's on is duff...

So have you tried re-installing the chipset drivers since the problem started? That would be the first thing i would do, might be a bad install.
