Everytime I play a video (mostly on WMP) I get a blue screen of death. I have no idea what is causing this but it is starting to get annoying. I havent installed anything lately but it just decided that itll do this everytime.

Can anyone help?

Update graphics drivers, reinstall latest codec pack.

Is the Bsod error the same every time?
If so, what does it say?

You say "mostly" in WMP. Have you tried other media players? Do you have the same problem?

Re-install/update your video codecs. Try different video codecs. Check your graphics temps - using (i.e.) GPU-Z?

If you are using Nvidia graphics driver 175.19 that would explain a lot!

It crashes my system a lot, apparently it slows the cooling fan on the graphics card to 35%?

I installed the previous driver 175.16 and cured the problem...

Might not be your problem though?

I was gonna update to that actually good thing I havent yet I am on 175.16 atm. Well I have disabled the ASUS splendid and OSD and it seems to have done the trick.

but what I am curious about is why did it suddenly do that? I find those software useful aswell so would like to turn them back on

thanks for the replies btw

Yea the BSOD error is the same I cant remember what it exactly says but its along the lines of NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL then sometimes it will start a dump or something

Yea, so write down the rest of it and post it here. Can't diagnose a problem if we don't know the symptoms :p

First bit is a start, IRQ Not less or equall means a driver is making interrupts when it shouldn't, so it's hardware / driver related, but the rest of the message will contain the file name of the driver misbehaving, which will give us a better clue as to what's going on.

Sorry I have tried to replicate the problem and I cant catch the whole message as it restarts so quickly:O

ah, in that case, right-click my computer -> properties -> advanced -> boot options (bottom one) -> uncheck auto-restart after failure.

This will stop the auto-reboot on the BSOD.

Sorry I was a bit busy so just had the time now. I turn the ASUS OSD and Splendid back on and straight away it BSOD'd on me so here is what it said:

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

STOP: 0x0000000A (0x00000016, 0x0000001C, 0x00000000, 0x80502392)

Also I just realized that I did change something before this happened and it I flashed the BIOS to latest version (cant remember exactly i think its 1501)

I googled the codes but it doesnt really help

Getting closer, that's a start, but at the bottom of the BSOD, it should reference the driver file, probably a .dll, this will tell us which hardware is causing the issue.

Chances are it's nvdisp.dll or something similar, which would be the nvidia driver, but if it's something else, that'll tell us we're barking up the wrong tree.

On this ocassion it didnt show a driver file which is weird but I do remember on a different time that it did and it show say something about "nv" something. But as turned the ASUS OSD/Splendid on it did it immediately playing a video

Can you attach the memory dump?

(C:\windows\minidump, most recent file)
