Anyone know or can point me in the direction of a 240v main switching thermostat, pretty much like you'd have on your central heating (ie. variable setting), but that can be set to turn ON when the temperature goes ABOVE the setting?
I need to put some cooling fans for my server enclosure onto a thermostat so that they automatically turn on above a temperature (also a suitably high temperature, probably circa the 40 degrees mark)... anyone know of a readily available thermostat I can use to do it?
Had a quick look around screwfix but couldn't see anything.... :(
Cheers,
Dan
Bada-boom (http://www.heatmiser.co.uk/fan_coil.htm). :D
The only issue with that is the output for the fans is AC, but I'm sure you could do something about this. :)
Installed a bunch of their under-floor heating gear into my boss' house near Moseley. Definitely worth the money they cost; really, really neat. The under-floor 'stats are all networked with RS-485, so you can see what each one is doing around the house (handy when you have 13) from the central controller.. Ace :D

You beauty - ta ;)
No, 240v output is fine - it's to run a pair of bathroom-type extractor fans so that's no problem.
Excellent. All this hot weather means I need to get them running again, but they've burnt out over a year ago from being constantly on, so it's about time I sorted them onto a thermostat-controlled switch rather than just a permanently-on one :D
Glad I could help.. Let me know how you get on ;)

Thanks for the tip, Tom. Came yesterday, installed it today. Bit of a ballache job as I had to disassemble my home-made server rack to get at the fans in the back wall, but put the 'stat in place and it works a treat. Nice bit of kit; I like the potential to drive a 3-speed fan - something for the future maybe. For now, it'll keep things a bit more quiet during the cool periods, without me having to switch them on manually every time it gets a bit warm...!
Excellent! Glad I could help :)
How much did it set you back in the end?

£32, something like that? Whatever it's on their site at... obviously very well specced for what I need, but I like the potential to enhance later on. And I'm so impressed, I'm toying with the idea of replacing the house heating 'stat with one :-D
Oh not too bad then. It's that blue back-lit LCD, it just looks so neat - whenever I've got a house, I know I'll be fitting a few! :D
The under-floor stuff (PRT-N/EN + controllers) is really, really cool. Even has a line-in for a modem, so you can do a bit of dial-up automation.. Very neat. :)
